The DALI Epikore 7 in Gloss Walnut is a compact 3.5-way high-end floorstanding speaker from the Danish Epikore series – with an EVO-K hybrid tweeter, two 7-inch Clarity Cone drivers and SMC Gen 2 technology from the flagship DALI KORE.

The Epikore series is DALI's bridge between the proven Epicon line and the uncompromising flagship KORE. From the top, the Epikore 7 inherits the essentials: the EVO-K tweeter module made up of a 35 mm soft-dome tweeter and a 10 × 55 mm planar ribbon, plus the Danish-made Clarity Cone drivers with SMC Gen 2 magnet system, which noticeably reduces magnetic hysteresis distortion. Walnut is the warmest of the four finishes: real wood veneer under several layers of piano lacquer, with the grain still visible through the high gloss.

Why the Epikore 7 in walnut?

Because it packs a startlingly large share of KORE DNA into a living-room-friendly format – and in walnut looks more like a piece of furniture than a piece of equipment. The two 7-inch drivers deliver surprising depth down to 35 Hz without the cabinet looking bulky. The EVO-K module radiates widely and renders treble silky and effortless, the soundstage opens up wide, voices and instruments standing out in tangible relief. Anyone stepping up from the Epicon or Rubicon class will hear the jump immediately. And if your living room has parquet, leather and wood furniture, you won't need to think twice about the finish.

What you get

A pair of hand-finished high-end floorstanding speakers in high-gloss walnut veneer, with a magnetically attached black grille, in an extremely rigid, low-resonance cabinet. Eight magnetic spikes for floor decoupling, bi-wiring links, a cleaning cloth and floor protection pads are included. The team at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil will work out with you which electronics really bring out the Epikore 7's potential – and deliver and set it up in your home.

Who is the Epikore 7 suitable for? (and who isn't it for)

Let's be clear: the Epikore 7 wants room and an amplifier with control. In a 12 m² room it's overkill, and on an underpowered mini-amp you won't unlock its potential. It doesn't flatter anything either and shows poorly produced recordings for what they are. If you have a medium to large room, a powerful amp and a genuine appetite for high-end resolution, you get one of the most convincing packages in its class. And if you choose your finish based on your interior rather than the spec sheet, you'll rarely go wrong with walnut.

Our verdict

The Epikore 7 delivers on DALI's promise: KORE technology, scaled down to a format that fits a normal living room. Walnut is the finish that looks least like technology – warm wood instead of a cool lacquer surface. If you want high-end that blends into a homely interior rather than dominating it, this is the one.

Frequently asked questions

How big should the room be for the Epikore 7?

The Epikore 7 starts performing from around 20 m² and really feels at home in medium to large rooms. In very small rooms it can't build the full soundstage and the bass quickly seems heavy. Tell us about your room and we'll give you an honest assessment.

Which amplifier suits the Epikore 7?

DALI recommends 40 to 400 watts. With 88 dB efficiency and a forgiving 6 Ω, it runs cleanly even on medium-powered amplifiers, but you'll only get its dynamics out of a powerful, well-controlled amp – for example from MOON, NAD or Advance Paris. We'll work out the combination with you.

Is the walnut finish real wood?

Yes. For the Epikore series, DALI uses real wood veneer under several layers of piano lacquer, not printed foil. That's why the grain stays visible in the high gloss and no pair looks exactly alike. The two magnetically attached grilles are black on this finish.

What's the difference between the Epikore 7 and the Epikore 9?

The Epikore 7 is the compact 3.5-way version with two 7-inch drivers and depth down to 35 Hz. The larger Epikore 9 works as a 4-way system, with two 8-inch woofers and a separate midrange driver, and reaches down to 29 Hz. It's the choice for larger rooms and more low-end.
