The Clearaudio Unity DIN is a 10-inch radial tonearm with a magnetically stabilised single-point sapphire bearing and a carbon armtube – this version in silver with a DIN connection on the arm and a detachable signal cable.
The mechanics match the RCA version down to the detail: a sapphire carries the arm, a magnetic field holds it along its axis, the carbon tube keeps resonance out. 254 mm effective length, 16.22 mm overhang and 21.59° offset angle make up the 10-inch geometry. The only thing that's new is the way out: via DIN, meaning a swappable tonearm cable.
Why the Unity with DIN?
Because it keeps open the one decision that's hardest to get right at the time of purchase. The arm itself is fully thought through – single-point bearing without wobble, continuously variable VTA adjustment during playback, finely adjustable azimuth. The cable, on the other hand, depends on your phono stage, your rack and your cable runs, and those tend to change over the years more than the arm does. With DIN you don't have to decide that today.
What you hear
Speed without haste. The Unity draws a large, calm space, sets voices and instruments firmly in place, and lets through fine dynamic gradations that get lost elsewhere in bearing friction. Its character is sober and honest – it flatters nothing that isn't on the record. With 16 grams of effective mass, it's among the medium-heavy to heavy arms.
Who is the Unity DIN suited for?
For analogue listeners with a cartridge between 5.0 and 17.0 grams who want to treat their tonearm cable as its own component – in silver especially fitting for light-coloured plinths and aluminium chassis. Plainly put: the DIN output is only an advantage if you ever actually use it; otherwise the RCA version is the simpler solution. And a cartridge outside the weight window remains a poor fit even with the finest cable.
Our verdict
A top-tier arm that brings an option rather than a gap: the included Super Sixstream is already first-class, yet switching remains possible at any time. At the core of it all is and remains the magnetically guided single-point bearing – freedom without trembling. Whether your turntable provides 238 mm and your cartridge falls within the weight window, we check at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil before anything is ordered.

Frequently asked questions
What's the point of the DIN connection instead of a permanently wired cable?
It lets you choose the tonearm cable independently of the arm. Via the DIN connection on the arm, it can be detached and later swapped for another without removing the arm. The included Clearaudio Super Sixstream (1.1 m, DIN to RCA) already covers the requirement fully.
Which cartridges is the Unity designed for?
Cartridges between 5.0 and 17.0 grams – a fixed limit both above and below, because the counterweight can no longer balance cleanly outside that window. The 16-gram effective mass suits MC cartridges of medium to low stylus compliance best.
How much space does the Unity need on the turntable?
238 mm mounting distance from the tonearm pivot to the platter spindle, with 254 mm effective length and 370 mm overall length. This 10-inch dimension sits between the common 9-inch and 12-inch mounting holes, so it doesn't fit every existing base. We'll work it out in advance against your turntable.
Does the silver version differ technically?
No. Silver and black share the same geometry, the same magnetically stabilised single-point sapphire bearing and the same carbon armtube. The difference is the aluminium's finish. Silver suits light-coloured plinths and aluminium chassis, black recedes more into the background.
Why buy the Unity DIN in silver at HD Zürisee?
Because before purchase we clarify the two questions that decide the outcome: does the arm fit mechanically on your turntable, and does your cartridge fall within the weight window? After that, Mauri mounts and sets it up in Wädenswil. Contact: +41 44 680 22 00, WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls), shop@hdzuerisee.ch.
