The Clearaudio Statement TT1 is a patented Tangential-Tonarm for the flagship Clearaudio Statement turntable – in this finish with natural Panzerholz, combined with aluminum, stainless steel and glass.

When a manufacturer builds an arm exclusively for a single turntable, that says a lot about both. The TT1 doesn't have to make compromises for foreign chassis – it only has to do one thing: track the groove in a straight line.

Why the Statement TT1?

Because the tangential principle is implemented here without the usual peripheral equipment. Instead of an air bearing, pump and hose, dry-running ball bearings guide the carriage through a calibrated, polished glass tube; the drive remains purely mechanical and passive, and a magnetic system locks the arm in the playback position. The Panzerholz in the chassis handles the damping – highly compressed laminated wood that absorbs vibrations instead of passing them back to the stylus. The arm comes wired from the factory with two meters of Super Sixstream with RCA connectors.

What you hear

Order that holds all the way to the last groove. No loss of precision towards the record's center, no harshness at high levels, no background hiss from the device itself. What remains is a very coherent, calm presentation – and the somewhat uncomfortable realization of just how much pivoted tonearms actually shortchange you in the inner grooves.

Who is the Statement TT1 for?

For owners of the Clearaudio Statement who deliberately choose the arm light and homely and use cartridges between 5.5 and 15.0 grams. Plain talk: without the Statement turntable, this arm makes no sense – for Innovation and Master Innovation, the TT1 MI is the right version. And anyone who likes switching cartridges often will be happier with a pivoted tonearm with interchangeable headshell.

Our verdict

The natural wood finish takes some of the technical severity out of the TT1 without changing anything about the substance: the data is identical across all finishes, the eye alone decides. What remains is a Tangential-Tonarm that solves the hardest task in turntable engineering purely mechanically and comes with a ten-year manufacturer's warranty for it. How it fits into your system is best discussed directly with us at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil.

Frequently asked questions

What is Panzerholz and why does it sit in a tonearm?

Panzerholz is highly compressed laminated wood from mechanical engineering. It damps excellently because it converts vibrational energy into heat instead of passing it on. That's exactly what a tonearm chassis needs: any resonance that travels back to the stylus otherwise ends up as coloration in the signal. Aluminum, stainless steel and glass complete the construction.

Does the wood finish differ technically from the black one?

No, it differs only visually. Clearaudio states the same data for the finishes of the Statement TT1: same design principle, same materials, same adjustment range of 5.5 to 15.0 grams, same dimensions and 8.6 kilograms of weight. You decide based on interior, not on sound.

Does the Statement TT1 also fit an Innovation turntable?

No, that's what the Statement TT1 MI is for. The TT1 was developed specifically for the Statement turntable, while the MI version transfers the same principle to the Innovation and Master Innovation series. The two also differ in height, weight and warranty duration, among other things.

How heavy is the arm and how much space does it need?

The Statement TT1 weighs 8.6 kilograms including the armtube and measures around 540 millimeters in width including lift, with about 210 millimeters of depth and height. It's therefore its own independent unit next to the turntable – it's best to plan the footprint on your rack before delivery.

Why buy the Statement TT1 from HD Zürisee?

Because with this arm, installation determines the result. We deliver, install it on the Statement, align it with measuring tools and advise you on cartridge and phono stage – as an authorized Clearaudio dealer, also after the purchase.
