The Clearaudio Terra is a star-point grounding box that brings together all the ground and earth connections in your hi-fi chain at a single central point – here in silver.

Much of the interference and that quiet background hum don't originate in the components themselves but in the grounding: missing, duplicated, or badly routed earth connections. This shows up especially often in the analogue chain, where the turntable brings its own ground wire along. That's exactly where the Terra comes in – a clean star point instead of a tangle of ground loops.

Why the Terra?

Its star-shaped design brings all grounding together at one point and prevents hum loops. The aluminium housing, filled with special sand, additionally dampens vibrations and electromagnetic interference. Important to know: the Terra is plugged into a socket, but it only uses the protective earth conductor from it. It's not a mains filter and doesn't condition the power – it tidies up the grounding. That sounds less spectacular described this way, and it still works.

What you get

On the back sit two groups of three: three connections for direct grounding (grounded) and three with a potential difference (ground lifted). That lets you try, device by device, which variant stays quieter. Three high-quality grounding cables are included so you can get started right away. Who is the Terra for?

What does a grounding box like the Terra actually do?

It brings all the grounding connections of your system together at a single star point, preventing hum loops. This often removes a faint hum or a diffuse restlessness caused by missing or badly routed grounding. It's not a miracle cure for a system that's already silent.

Is the Terra a mains filter?
