Was genau unterscheidet dieses Angebot vom normalen Smart Matrix Silent?

The Clearaudio Smart Matrix Silent + Cover is a record cleaning machine for single-sided wet cleaning, supplied together with the matching acrylic cover.

The difference from the standard Smart Matrix Silent is exactly those two words: the cover is included in the price here, and the unit itself is black. Technology, operation and scope of delivery are otherwise identical to the base model.

Why the version with cover?

Because a record cleaning machine is the one device on the shelf where dust isn't just unsightly but harmful. If the machine sits out in the open, fine dust settles on the brushes and microfibre strips – and on the next wash it travels straight into the wet groove. The cover keeps exactly that out, and the machine looking like new for years.

What you get

The complete set of machine and cover, ready to use straight out of the box. Washing is done side by side with application, brush and vacuum; the platter runs in both directions. After extraction the record is dry, the static crackle noticeably reduced, and the groove clear for the stylus.

Who is the Smart Matrix Silent + Cover for?

For anyone who leaves their machine permanently in the same spot – in the living room, the music room, next to the record shelf. Straight talk: the cover doesn't make the unit more portable, only cleaner; at a good ten kilos, it's not something you put away all the time. And even with the cover, it doesn't wash both sides – that's what the Double Matrix models are for.

Our verdict

The variant we recommend most often at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil: the same machine, much better protected. hifitest credited the series with "excellent build quality, a wealth of well-thought-out details and trouble-free, quick-to-manage handling" (hifitest 3/2020) – the cover makes sure that's still true in five years.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is different about this offer compared to the standard Smart Matrix Silent?

Only the acrylic cover, which is included here. Machine, technology and the rest of the scope of delivery are identical. This variant is the black one; the same combination is also available in silver. Anyone who doesn't need the cover chooses the cheaper base unit without it.

What does the cover do in everyday use?

It keeps ambient dust away from the vacuum arm, brushes and platter. Since during wet cleaning everything lying on the arm ends up in the groove, the cover is the cheapest insurance against self-inflicted scratches – and it keeps the machine looking fresh for longer.

How loud is the machine during extraction?

Quieter than most record cleaning machines. clearaudio insulates the extraction turbine against noise but doesn't state a decibel figure. hifitest described the level in 2020 as living-room friendly and unproblematic even late at night with thin walls. A conversation in the same room remains possible.

Can I leave the cover closed while washing?

No, washing is done with the cover open or removed – the multifunction arm needs room. The cover is dust protection for the time between uses, not sound insulation during operation. With the cover fitted, the unit measures around 345 × 345 × 250 mm.
