The Clearaudio Double Matrix Professional Sonic is a high-end record cleaning machine that wet-cleans both record sides in a single wash cycle and lifts stubborn dirt out of the groove with sonic vibration.
Shown here: the silver version. Technically identical to the black one, just dressed in bright aluminium. On board: a suction turbine with overheating protection, an anti-static brush unit, an LED fluid-level indicator and a cleaning cycle that runs through completely at the push of a button.
Why the Double Matrix Professional Sonic?
Because it solves the time factor. Both sides in a single pass means half the effort, no flipping, no second run. Add to that the switchable sonic vibration, which sets the fluid oscillating and lifts deposits out of the depths of the groove that brushing alone can't reach. If you like, control every step individually — everyone else just presses once and lets the machine do the rest.
What you get
Around 16 kilograms of aluminium in silver, built for collections running into the thousands. After the wash cycle, the record is dry, discharged and audibly quieter. What's remarkable is how restrained the machine is in operation: clearaudio explicitly describes it as running near-silently — something of a small sensation for a machine in this category.
Who is the Double Matrix Professional Sonic in silver for?
For collectors with a large holding, for dealers, and for anyone who works through vinyl systematically rather than dusting it off occasionally. To be blunt: if you clean two dozen records a year, you're buying well beyond your needs here — the Smart Matrix Silent does the job just as cleanly, only more slowly. And 41 centimetres wide plus 16 kilos need a stable, firm spot.
Our verdict
The most uncompromising record wash that clearaudio offers — and more mature in its manner than you'd expect. The trade magazine hifitest called it "quieter, more capable and more comfortable than its predecessors" (hifitest 4/2015). Whether silver or black suits your room better, and whether you even need this class of machine, we'll clarify with you beforehand at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil.

Frequently asked questions
Does the silver version differ technically from the black one?
No, the difference is purely visual. Both versions have the same feature set, the same dimensions and the same weight. Silver suits bright racks and aluminium fronts well, black tends to fade into the background. The rest is a matter of taste and costs the same amount of space.
Is the acrylic cover shown in some photos included?
No. The cover is an optional accessory and is ordered separately. With the cover fitted, the machine measures around 410 × 385 × 290 millimetres; with the record clamp instead of the cover, around 410 × 385 × 276 millimetres. Just ask us, and we'll add the right part to your order.
How quiet is the machine in operation?
Noticeably quieter than older professional machines. clearaudio describes operation as near-silent and gives no decibel figure. In 2015, hifitest found the machine could comfortably be used at any time of day or night; mainly air-flow noise is audible.
Can I also clean singles with it?
The machine is designed for LPs and EPs, and the single adapter for the large centre hole is included. If you regularly wash small formats, let us know beforehand — we'll then clarify which accessories genuinely suit your collection.
