The Clearaudio Concept Verify in silver is a magnetic-bearing 9-inch radial tonearm with an armtube made of resonance-optimised carbon.
The bearing works entirely without contact: two like magnetic poles hold the arm in position, nothing is braked. Add to that a tube that converts vibrations into heat instead of feeding them back into the cartridge. Two measures, one goal – the stylus should feel only the groove.
Why the Concept Verify in carbon?
Carbon is stiff and light at the same time, and that exact combination can't be replicated with aluminium. The tube stays shape-stable under impulses, yet barely rings itself – resonances dissipate instead of settling into the midrange. Combined with the friction-free bearing and contact-free antiskating, the cartridge simply runs out of excuses. The Direct Wire Plus is permanently wired and factory-fitted with MPC RCA connectors, and the silver finish matches most Clearaudio turntables in colour.
What you'll hear
Air. The carbon version noticeably opens up the upper range more than the aluminium tube: cymbal hits ring out fully, reverb tails don't cut off early, and the soundstage gains depth instead of just width. In the bass it stays a touch leaner and faster. With well-recorded strings or a cleanly pressed jazz record, you'll notice the difference within the first minute.
Who is the Concept Verify in silver for?
For listeners who value resolution and fine detail over warmth, and for cartridges that already bring a full fundamental tone of their own. Systems from 2.5 to 17 grams can be balanced. Plain talk: on a system that already leans toward brightness, carbon can make things worse – the black aluminium model is then the smarter choice. And if you set your turntable on a wobbly sideboard, neither arm will show what it's really capable of.
Our verdict
The finer of the two versions, and the better partner for anything that's meant to sound transparent. Wear-free, low-maintenance, geometrically identical to the aluminium model – the difference lies purely in the tube, and it's bigger than the price gap suggests. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we'll tell you openly whether your cartridge benefits from it, or whether the other version will bring you more enjoyment.

FAQ
What does the carbon armtube offer over aluminium?
Less self-resonance at the same stiffness. Carbon damps vibrations within itself more strongly, so the treble and fine dynamics stay freer and the imaging seems tidier. The geometry and bearing are identical on both versions; the difference comes purely from the tube material and the ten grams less overall weight.
Which cartridges suit the Verify?
Cartridges weighing 2.5 to 17 grams can be balanced cleanly via the counterweight. Clearaudio doesn't state the effective mass, so the resonance frequency can't simply be calculated. In practice the arm gets along well with medium-compliance MC cartridges; with very softly suspended MM styli, it's best to ask us first.
Can I mount the arm on a different turntable?
Yes, as long as the 222 mm mounting distance between pivot and platter spindle can be maintained. Many turntables from other makers allow this with a suitable arm base. Send us your turntable's model, and we'll check the drilling pattern, distance and arm height before anything is ordered or drilled.
How much maintenance does the tonearm need?
Hardly any. There's no bearing to oil and no antiskating mechanism that drifts out of adjustment. Keep the bearing area free of dust and check tracking force and antiskating once a year, or whenever you mount a new cartridge. The arm needs no more maintenance than that – the rest of your attention belongs to the stylus.
Why buy the Concept Verify from HD Zürisee?
Because with a carbon arm, the system combination decides the result. We look at your turntable, cartridge and phono stage together before you commit. Goes well with
You'll find a matching system among the cartridges, the turntable under turntables, and the amplification among the phono preamps. So the fine resolution doesn't get lost in dust, it's worth a look at record cleaning.
