The Canton Sound M is a compact active 2.1 soundbar with virtual surround that packs 300 watts, Dolby Audio and DTS decoders, and a full HDMI connection panel into a 6.5 cm flat housing.
At 72.5 cm wide, it stays within the frame even under smaller TVs – and because it brings three of its own HDMI inputs, it also takes on the job many TVs fail at: keeping the cable clutter under control.
Why the Canton Sound M?
Because it has the connection panel of a full-blown system. Alongside the HDMI output with ARC for the TV, three HDMI inputs (HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, 4K, 3D) stand ready for Blu-ray player, console and streaming box, plus an optical and a coaxial digital input, an analogue RCA input and a sub-out. Inside the HDF housing with polished glass top, four 50 mm aluminium woofers, two 19 mm fabric tweeters and two passive radiators do the work. Dolby Audio and DTS decoders process the film soundtrack, LipSync keeps picture and sound in step, and an on-screen display shows the settings right on the TV.

- Wirelessly expandable later with Canton Smart speakers and Smart Sub
Who is the Canton Sound M for?
For anyone who wants cinema-grade sound without turning the living room into a speaker showroom – and who values a genuine HDMI connection panel. Straight talk: a soundbar doesn't replace five individually placed speakers with true all-round sound, that's physics, not marketing. And if you want to stream over Wi-Fi, AirPlay or multiroom, this isn't for you: the Sound M connects exclusively via Bluetooth. If what you're after is connection variety and a small footprint, though, there's barely anything this clever in this size.
Our verdict
Probably the most versatile mini soundbar in the range: a tiny housing, a big connection panel, and expandable into a multi-channel setup later. If you need HDMI inputs and clean film sound without sacrificing space, this is spot on. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we check in advance whether the Sound M fits under your TV – with low-set feet, that comes down to a matter of centimetres.

Frequently asked questions
Can the Canton Sound M stream over Wi-Fi?
No. Music reaches the bar via Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX; it has no Wi-Fi module with AirPlay, Chromecast or multiroom. If you need network streaming, we'll show you the right alternatives from our range – no subscriptions required.
Can I connect several devices at the same time?
Yes. Using the three HDMI inputs you can hook up a Blu-ray player, console and streaming box directly to the bar and pass the picture through to the TV via HDMI ARC. That keeps the back of the TV tidy and saves you a switch box.
Does the Sound M support 4K video?
Yes. The HDMI inputs are 4K-capable (HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2) and pass the picture through to the TV unchanged. The bar only handles the sound; the video signal stays untouched. It doesn't decode Dolby Atmos, though.
Can the Sound M be expanded into a surround system?
Yes, it belongs to the Canton Smart System and can be wirelessly expanded with Smart speakers into a multi-channel set. For more low-end there's also the sub-out, which lets you connect any active subwoofer via RCA.
Why buy the Canton Sound M at HD Zürisee?
Because we tell you honestly what the little bar can do and where its limits lie – such as the missing network streaming. Our experienced team has known the Canton family for years, and Mauri will set up the bar for you on request. Call, write, or reach us on WhatsApp.
