The Canton InCeiling P4 is the compact passive ceiling speaker of the premium P Series, with a 135 mm chassis and only 74 mm installation depth.

177 mm outer diameter, 150 mm cutout, a paintable magnetic grille – the P4 is the model for ceilings that don't give you much room, and for spaces where a big circle in the ceiling would be too much.

Why the InCeiling P4?

Because in practice, installation depth is more often the problem than the sound. 74 mm fits into shallow suspended ceilings, between joists and into niches where a 6.5-inch driver fails. Yet it still packs the full P Series technology: woofer/midrange system in aluminium-titanium composite, 25 mm tweeter, crossover at 3,000 Hz, plus the four-pin connector for clean daisy-chaining.

What you hear

Clear, well-resolved reproduction with a surprisingly solid centre for its size. 86.5 dB sensitivity and 50 watts nominal power handling are more than enough for music in the hallway, kitchenette, home office or above the dining table. Low-end extension ends earlier by design than with the P6; that's what subwoofers are for.

Who is the InCeiling P4 suited for?

For smaller rooms, secondary zones, hallways, dressing rooms, and any ceiling with a tight cavity. Straight talk: in a large living room, two P4s will leave you wishing for four – there you're better off going straight for the P6 or P8. And it's not approved for bathrooms or covered terraces; that's the domain of the P6 Outdoor.

Our verdict

The problem-solver of the range: where other ceiling speakers simply don't fit, the P4 keeps playing at premium level. In a multi-room concept it's the link that brings the small zones up to the same sound level as the big ones. We work out which model belongs in which room from your floor plan – that's what our team in Wädenswil is here for.

Frequently asked questions

Does the InCeiling P4 fit a shallow suspended ceiling?

In most cases, yes. It needs 74 mm of depth behind the ceiling panel and a 150 mm cutout; the trim covers up to 177 mm, and the ceiling panel can be up to 40 mm thick. What matters is the free cavity above the panel – joists, cables and ventilation also determine the position.

When should I take the P6 or P8 instead of the P4?

As soon as the room gets bigger or open-plan. The P4 starts at 50 Hz, the P6 brings more cone area and a point more sensitivity, the P8 noticeably more still. Rule of thumb: small zones and shallow ceilings get the P4, living rooms the P6, open-plan kitchen-living spaces the P8. We help plan the quantity too.

Does the P4 need a back chamber, and can it go in the bathroom?

A back chamber isn't mandatory, but it helps against sound bleeding into the room above and is required under fire-protection regulations. The P4 isn't approved for bathrooms – that's where the splash-protected P6 Outdoor belongs. Mauri, our technician, sorts out both during on-site installation.

Why buy the Canton InCeiling P4 from HD Zürisee?

Because with the compact model, advice is worth the most: too few P4s in too large a room is the most common mistake in ceiling sound. We work out area, ceiling height and quantity beforehand, supply the matching system, and install it on request.

Goes well with

A subwoofer covers the missing low end, drive comes from the amplifiers, the connection from the speaker cables. If you'd rather have a visible solution than a ceiling install, check out the bookshelf speakers.
