The Canton InCeiling 855 T is a ceiling speaker with a built-in 100-volt transformer, which runs either on a 100V installation line or on a normal 8-ohm amplifier.

The T in the name stands for the transformer. That places the 855 T in Canton's installation line: built for long cable runs, many speakers on one line, and areas you don't want to cover with a chain of amplifiers.

Why the InCeiling 855 T?

Because it can do both. In 100-volt operation you hang an entire zone off a single pair of cables and choose the power tap per speaker – 100, 50 or 25 watts – saving copper, channels and nerves. In 8-ohm operation the same speaker plays as a classic hi-fi ceiling speaker. On top of that come the strongest specs in the series: 135 mm ceramic cone, 91 dB sensitivity, 160 W music power handling.

What you hear

Plenty of level from little amplifier power. 91 dB is a serious figure for a ceiling speaker – the 855 T fills large areas evenly without the electronics breaking a sweat. The ceramic cones sound dry and clean throughout, from 42 Hz up to 40 kHz, and the angle-adjustable tweeter can be aimed at the main zone.

Who is the InCeiling 855 T suited for?

For permanent installations: large living areas, practices, shops, hospitality venues, multiroom zones with many speakers. Straight talk: if you're looking for two ceiling speakers for the living room and will never run a 100-volt line, you'll be carrying the transformer around without ever using it – the plain 8-ohm models are the better fit then. And with a 270 mm cutout it genuinely needs space in the ceiling.

Our verdict

The workhorse among Canton's ceiling speakers: level-stable, efficient, flexibly wired – built for areas, not for the sweet spot. If your project calls for many speakers on few lines, the 855 T is exactly the right tool. And yes, we'll plan the quantity for you instead of guessing.

Frequently asked questions

What does the T stand for in the InCeiling 855 T?

The T stands for the built-in transformer. It lets you run the speaker on a 100-volt installation line, as is common in commercial properties. A selector switch sets the power tap or switches to normal 8-ohm operation.

Which power taps does 100-volt operation offer?

On the speaker you choose between 100, 50 and 25 watts, plus the 8-ohm setting for classic hi-fi use. That lets you distribute the available amplifier power cleanly across all speakers in a zone. We work out which tap goes where as part of your project.

Can I run the 855 T on a normal hi-fi amplifier?

Yes. Switch it to 8-ohm operation and it behaves like any passive ceiling speaker, connecting directly to a stereo or multi-channel amplifier. The transformer then simply goes unused. With 91 dB sensitivity, moderate power is already enough for solid level.

How big does the ceiling cutout need to be?

The 855 T needs a 270 mm cutout diameter and 90 mm of free installation depth, with 290 mm staying visible. That's noticeably more than the smaller InCeiling models. It's approved for ceilings up to 40 mm thick. Measure your ceiling construction before ordering to check it allows for this.

Does the 855 T need an enclosure or damping?

No, it works as a free-air system in the ceiling cavity. Damping material above the chassis does reduce sound transfer into neighbouring rooms, though, which is often required for practices or offices. Whether a sealed back chamber is needed is something Mauri, our technician, clarifies during an on-site visit.

Why buy the Canton InCeiling 855 T from HD Zürisee?

Because a 100-volt installation needs planning: power distribution, spacing, cable cross-sections, zone layout. That's exactly what we've been doing for many years. HD Zürisee in Wädenswil creates the concept for you, supplies the technology, and Mauri implements it on site on request. Tell us about your project.

Goes well with

The right power comes from the power amplifiers or a unit from the amplifiers. For the wiring you'll find material among the speaker cables and in the accessories. More unobtrusive models are shown under ceiling speakers and wall speakers.
