The Canton GLE 50 Center S2 is a sealed 2.5-way center speaker that takes on the speech channel in a multichannel setup and anchors dialogue right where the picture expects it.
In white, the 50 cm wide bar disappears under a light-coloured TV cabinet noticeably better than in black – acoustically nothing changes. Two 154mm woofer/midrange drivers with an aluminium titanium black membrane flank a 25mm aluminium dome with an integrated waveguide. The cabinet is sealed, so there's no reflex port that starts to boom in a tight compartment. Delivered as a single unit.
Why the Canton GLE 50 Center S2?
Because in a film, the lion's share of speech runs through exactly this one channel. If the center doesn't sonically match the front speakers, every scene where someone moves from left to right sounds like a jump cut. The GLE 50 Center S2 uses the same ATB membranes and the same aluminium dome as the rest of the GLE S2 family and works as a 2.5-way system: both 154mm drivers support the bass, but only one plays on up to 400 Hz, with the tweeter taking over from 3,000 Hz. That keeps the voice reproduction unified instead of splitting it across two equal drivers – the classic weak point of symmetrically built centers.
What you hear
Above all: less effort. Dialogue stays intelligible even when the soundtrack underneath is busy, and it stays put in the middle of the screen instead of drifting. On the top end the center reaches up to 40,000 Hz, giving sibilants and room ambience room to breathe. On the bottom end Canton states 30 Hz – the deep bass is handled by the subwoofer in home cinema anyway. With 89 dB efficiency at 4 to 8 ohms, it's an uncritical partner for any typical AV receiver.
Who is the Canton GLE 50 Center S2 for?
Plain and simple: for any home cinema whose front speakers come from the GLE S2 family or match it sonically – in white, especially when the furniture and front speakers are also light-coloured. Measure first: 50 cm width and 27 cm depth need a proper compartment. If you listen exclusively in stereo, you don't need a center at all and your money is better spent on the front speakers. And if you run a front voiced completely differently, plan the switch deliberately instead of just slotting the center in.
Our verdict
A center without any showing off: clearly sized, cleanly engineered, with exactly one job – and it does that job. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, we'll plan the front combination with you, check space and positioning in your furniture, and then tune the center to your room and seating position. Call us or drop us a line about what you already have – that saves more time in the end than any spec sheet.

Frequently asked questions
Is the GLE 50 Center S2 sold individually?
Yes, the center is a single unit, and in home cinema you need exactly one of them – centred below or above the screen. The figures on this page apply per unit. We're happy to help you put together which front and surround speakers pair well with it.
Does the white center need to match the front speakers?
Sonically yes, visually not necessarily. What matters is that the center and front have the same tonal signature, otherwise pans from left to right noticeably break apart. Within the GLE S2 series that's a given – whether you choose white, black or Makassar remains purely a matter of taste.
Which receiver suits the GLE 50 Center S2?
Practically any typical AV receiver. 89 dB efficiency and a nominal impedance of 4 to 8 ohms make it uncritical, 80 W rated and 140 W music power handling leave plenty of headroom for movie levels. More important than the wattage figure is that your receiver stays stable at 4 ohms.
How much space does the center need in the furniture?
Plan for 50 cm width, 27 cm depth and 17 cm height, plus a bit of clearance at the back. It sits lying flat, as close as possible to the middle of the screen and aimed at the listening position. If it sits noticeably below ear height, a slight tilt helps noticeably.
Does the GLE 50 Center S2 have bi-wiring terminals?
No, it has a simple screw terminal for single-wiring that accepts banana plugs. For a center channel that's not an issue anyway – it simply connects to the center output of your receiver. What matters more is a decent cable cross-section on the run to the furniture.
Why buy the Canton GLE 50 Center S2 at HD Zürisee?
Because a center only comes together with the right front speakers, the correct height, and clean calibration – brochure figures help little there. Our specialist team knows the GLE S2 series from hands-on practice, plans your surround set with you, delivers, and stays reachable with our own in-house technician for installation and service.
Goes well with
Matching floorstanding speakers or bookshelf speakers for the front, a subwoofer as the foundation, further home cinema speakers for the surround channels, and speaker cable with a proper cross-section.
