The Cabasse The Pearl Sub in white is an active subwoofer that also works as a network streamer and as a stereo power amp for two passive speakers.

The bright sphere is the more discreet of the two finishes – in bright rooms it recedes politely into the background, until the first bass line makes it clear that there are 20 kilograms of technology standing there.

Why the Cabasse The Pearl Sub?

A 2.1 system otherwise consists of a streamer, an integrated amplifier, a subwoofer and the matching cable clutter. The Pearl Sub combines three of those: 1000 watts RMS for the 25 cm HELD woofer, twice 300 watts RMS for the satellites, plus a converter that handles up to 768 kilohertz and 32 bit. That adds up to 1600 watts of continuous power – Cabasse states peak values of 2000 and twice 600 watts, which are two different things and, in good datasheets, are listed separately as such.

The device calibrates itself: CRCS measures the room via an internal microphone, DEAP tunes the crossover to the connected speakers. Streaming runs via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.2 and AirPlay 2 – and since the 2025 Roon Ready certification, directly from Roon too. Subscription services are one option among several, not a requirement.

Who is the Pearl Sub suited for?

For living spaces where the tech shouldn't dominate, and for anyone who wants more depth than a soundbar can deliver. Honestly: as a plain home-cinema sub under an AV receiver, the Pearl Sub would be wasted – half its intelligence would sit idle. Its home is a stereo setup with two compact passive speakers, controlled via the app and otherwise simply left alone.

Our verdict

If you want a compact system that still gets serious down low, this is one of the most elegant solutions around. Cabasse names 14 Hz as the lower limit – without stating at what level drop it was measured, so it's more of a ballpark figure than a lab value, though unmistakable in a living room. Which speakers can I connect to the Pearl Sub?

Any passive stereo pair that works with 300 watts RMS per channel – compact Cabasse satellites like the iO series are the intended match. DEAP signal processing adapts the crossover to the connected speakers. Which combination will work in your room is something we clarify together beforehand, rather than sorting out afterwards via a return.

How is the Pearl Sub adapted to the room?

Automatically, via the built-in measurement microphone. The CRCS system plays test tones, measures the room's response and corrects the frequency response within a minute. You don't have to hunt for controls or measure anything yourself. Fine-tuning is still possible, for instance if the sphere sits close to a wall or in a corner.

Is the Pearl Sub Roon Ready?

Yes. Cabasse had the Pearl series certified via a firmware update in 2025; the Pearl Sub appears on the official Roon partner list as Roon Ready. So you integrate it directly as a zone in Roon. Also on board are AirPlay 2, Bluetooth 4.2 and high-resolution multiroom over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

Does the Pearl Sub have an HDMI input?

No, there's no HDMI or eARC. For the TV you use the optical S/PDIF input, which practically every TV has. Analogue sources connect via RCA, and a USB port accepts music from a hard drive or stick. On the network side, everything runs via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
