Why the Pearl Akoya?

Three ways, 1050 watts RMS: 450 watts drive the 17 cm HELD woofer, 300 watts each go to the mid and high frequencies of the coaxial BCI driver. The coaxial layout turns mid and high into a single sound source, and the round enclosure shape prevents edge reflections. The result is a soundstage that detaches from the box. CRCS room correction, via the StreamCONTROL app, evens out whatever quirks the room and placement bring along.

What you get

Network via LAN or dual-band WLAN, plus AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and the physical inputs: optical, USB and analogue 3.5 mm jack, for which an RCA adapter is included. Files play up to 24-bit/192 kHz. If you manage your library with Roon, the Akoya has shown up directly as a zone in the software since its 2025 certification. And because it keeps coming up: a streaming subscription is not a must. Internet radio, music from a hard drive on the USB input, or the TV on the optical input all work with no monthly cost.

Who is the Pearl Akoya for – and who isn't it for?

For small to medium rooms and for anyone who wants serious sound without setting up two floorstanders. Honestly: it's sold per piece, so for stereo you need two spheres – something that's easy to miss when buying online. And for large, open spaces demanding deep bass, the larger The Pearl or a subwoofer is the more honest answer.

Frequently asked questions

How many Akoya do I need for stereo?

Two. The Akoya is sold per piece, and each sphere is a complete active speaker with its own network player. In the StreamCONTROL app you assign left and right channels to the pair. Run singly, it plays in mono, which is often enough for secondary rooms.

What connections does the Akoya have?

An optical S/PDIF input, a USB 2.0 port for external storage media, and an analogue 3.5 mm jack input; an RCA-to-jack adapter is included. Plus Ethernet and WLAN. There's no HDMI or ARC connection – the TV connects via the optical input.

Can the Akoya be integrated into Roon?

Yes. Cabasse had the Pearl series certified Roon Ready in 2025; in Roon's partner list the Akoya is additionally listed as Roon Tested. After a firmware update via the StreamCONTROL app, it appears as its own zone. MQA is left out, but FLAC and ALAC run up to 24-bit/192 kHz.

Can I put the Akoya on a stand or mount it on the wall?

Yes. Cabasse offers a 70-centimetre floor stand and a matching wall mount for the Akoya, and it also stands securely on a shelf. What matters is keeping some distance from the back wall, otherwise the low end gets thicker than intended.

What room size suits the Akoya?

Small to medium rooms. Bass extension down to 30 Hz and 121 dB as a pair are generously sized for that, and CRCS room correction handles tricky placements. In very large, open spaces, the larger The Pearl or a subwoofer is the better solution.
