Blok Stax 2G 4-Shelf HiFi Rack, Black Glass

The Blok Stax 2G 4-Shelf in black glass is a modular HiFi rack with four levels made of 10 mm tempered black glass, individually decoupled via silicone pads.

The supports are made of ash plywood with a high-gloss black surface. Together with the dark glass, that makes this the most striking of the three finishes: it puts your gear on display instead of hiding it. Blok belongs to the British Monitor Audio Group and builds nothing but furniture for audio systems.

Why the glass variant, of all things?

Because it brings mass. Fully assembled, this 4-Shelf weighs 35.0 kg, around 15 kg more than the plywood finishes – a heavier foundation that's less easily set into vibration. On top of that come two small but practical differences: the glass shelves offer 8 mm more usable depth at 480 × 387 mm, and the rack stands 11 mm lower at 697 mm.

What you get

Four standing spots that look as if they've always carried your gear. The configuration of base module, two 170 mm levels, and one 220 mm level also accommodates a turntable with a dust cover or an AV receiver. Silicone isolation pads work between the levels, the supports can be weighted with one to five litres of sand via rubber plugs, a cable cutout runs at the back of every level, and you set the feet on spikes or hard-floor pads. Every shelf carries 40 kg – more than most devices will ever demand.

Who is the Stax 2G 4-Shelf in black glass suitable for?

For anyone who wants to deliberately put their system on display, and for dark, calm listening rooms where gloss and glass are allowed to work their magic. Straight talk: black glass is the dust magnet of the three variants and shows every fingerprint. Where kids or dogs romp through the living room, the plywood finishes are the more relaxed choice – and 35 kg isn't something you casually carry up the stairs alone.

Frequently asked questions

Are glass shelves acoustically worse than wood?

Different, not worse. Blok rates both materials for the same 40 kg load capacity and uses the same silicone decoupling for both. Glass brings more mass to the rack, plywood damps differently. Which variant suits you better is, in practice, mostly a matter of the room and your taste.

How much does the glass variant weigh?

35.0 kg when assembled – around 15 kg more than the plywood finishes. Carry it with two people and set it up straight away in its final spot. The overall dimensions are 697 × 602 × 402 mm, making the rack 11 mm lower than the wood variants.

How much space does a level offer?

480 × 387 mm of usable surface per shelf, so 8 mm more depth than the plywood shelves. That means deeper integrated amplifiers stand securely too. The modules set the height: two levels at 170 mm, one at 220 mm for taller devices.

Can I add levels later?

Yes. The Stax 2G modules can be combined, added to, and rearranged; Blok names 1100 mm as the recommended maximum height. Individual levels come in 120, 170, and 220 mm, as well as an LP level. Do think about whether you deliberately want to mix glass and plywood levels or not.
