Blok Stax 2G 3-Shelf HiFi Rack, Black Glass

The Blok Stax 2G 3-Shelf is a modular HiFi rack with three levels whose shelves rest on a silicone isolation layer, and which can be expanded with further modules at any time.

This finish uses 10 mm thick black glass and high-gloss black side supports – the most striking of the three variants, one that puts your gear on display rather than just parking it. The series is built by Blok in the UK, a brand of the Monitor Audio Group.

Why the Stax 2G 3-Shelf?

Base module plus two Module 170s make three levels with 170 mm of usable height each – room for amplifier, source, and turntable. Glass adds around eleven kilos over plywood, and that mass works in your favour: the heavier the structure, the less it passes back to your gear. The system stays expandable regardless – heavy doesn't mean set in stone here.

What you get

A heavy, calm base with real presence. A silicone layer decouples the levels, the hollow side supports can take sand if you want them to, and the four feet can be fitted with spikes or hard-floor pads and adjusted in height. Tinted glass has a pleasant side effect too: displays and brushed fronts stand out much better on it than on matte wood.

Who is the Stax 2G 3-Shelf suitable for?

For systems that are allowed to be seen, and for rooms where a dark, glossy piece of furniture works. Straight talk: gloss and glass want a microfibre cloth now and then, or you'll soon be counting fingerprints instead of tracks. If you're after warmth in the room, the walnut or satin white variant suits you better – structurally the three finishes are identical.

How heavy is the black glass finish?

The complete 3-Shelf rack weighs 25.6 kg in black glass, while the plywood finishes come in at just under 15 kg. The extra mass is intentional: it makes the structure heavier and thus less sensitive to structure-borne vibration. It's best to bring a second person along when setting it up.

How big is the rack?

In the glass finish it measures 602 mm wide, 467 mm high, and 402 mm deep. Each level offers 480 × 387 mm of surface at 170 mm of usable height. For taller devices, add a Module 220, which can be fitted in later.

Is glass a sonic disadvantage as a rack shelf?

No. The shelves don't sit rigidly but rather on a silicone isolation layer over the supports – glass acts here as a heavy, stiff plate. What matters more than the material is that the structure is bolted together, aligned level, and kept within the 40 kg per level.

Can I expand the rack later?

Yes. You undo the M10 fixings, insert an additional Module 120, 170, 220, or LP, and screw it back together. That turns the 3-Shelf into a 4-Shelf. The modules are available in the same black glass finish, so the structure stays consistent.
