AVM Ovation SA 8.3S Stereo Power Amplifier, Silver
AVM Ovation SA 8.3S Stereo Power Amplifier, Silver
Couldn't load pickup availability
The AVM Ovation SA 8.3S in silver is a stereo power amplifier that combines a tube stage at the input with 24 MOSFETs per channel at the output.
Silver aluminium, dimmed OLED, 42 kilograms of mass – visually restrained, technically the opposite. A device that does not demand attention in the rack but earns it.
Why the SA 8.3S?
The character of this power amplifier lies in the interplay: according to AVM, an anode-follower tube stage at the input provides an ultra-wideband frequency response, followed by a dual differential input stage and a consistently DC-coupled signal path. Channel separation extends right into the power supply: one 1000 VA toroidal transformer and 270,000 µF of filter capacitance per channel. Handcrafted in Malsch, documented with a frequency response from below 1 Hz to over 100 kHz.
What you experience
Reserves. Over 230 watts into 8 ohms, over 420 watts into 4 ohms, over 700 watts into 2 ohms per channel, plus a damping factor above 400 – enough to lead even low-impedance speakers with composure. XLR and RCA are available as inputs, and a trigger (5–20 V DC) and the AIR Trigger let the power amplifier start together with your AVM preamplifier. There is no volume control; the preamplifier remains mandatory.
Who is the SA 8.3S Silver for – and who is it not for?
For hi-fi fans who are looking for a powerful stereo power amplifier with tube character at the input and who, when it comes to silver, think of the devices of the Ovation series rather than of black. Honestly speaking: if you would rather plan with two monoblocks and even more power reserve, you should go for the MA 8.3S. And if you can do without the tube, the SA 8.3 LITE saves you quite a lot.
Our verdict
The SA 8.3S Silver is the stereo power amplifier for customers who want power without compromise and still put only one unit in the rack. Which preamplifier and which speakers suit it is something we are happy to clarify with you at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil – call us, write to us or get in touch via WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a preamplifier for the SA 8.3S?
Yes. The SA 8.3S has no volume control and no source selection, and its gain is fixed at 30. A preamplifier or streaming preamplifier in front of it controls level and sources and connects to the power amplifier via XLR or RCA.
How warm does the SA 8.3S get?
At idle it draws around 120 watts, which makes it properly warm; in standby it is below 0.5 watts. In operation you should therefore give it room above and to the sides. How much space it needs, we will clarify with you based on your rack.
Which speakers suit the SA 8.3S?
Thanks to over 230 watts into 8 ohms and over 700 watts into 2 ohms, it also copes with difficult loads. Which speakers match it tonally depends on room and taste – tell us what is playing at your place and we will advise you.
What warranty does the SA 8.3S have?
AVM grants two years, four with online registration. We take care of the registration for you and handle a warranty claim through our technician, without you having to ship the unit yourself.
Why buy the AVM Ovation SA 8.3S at HD Zürisee?
Because a power amplifier of this size involves more than the box: preamplifier, speakers, setup and cabling must fit together. As a well-practised specialist team in Wädenswil with our own technician we accompany you from advice to set-up. Write to us, call us or use WhatsApp.
