The AVM Ovation SA 6.3 is a MOS-FET stereo power amplifier in Class-A/AB high-current design, delivering 2 × 200 watts at 8 ohms and 2 × 350 watts at 4 ohms.
It's the transistor power amplifier of the Ovation range: no tube glow, no off-the-shelf tonal colour, but a power supplier that passes the preamplifier's signal on to the speakers as unchanged as possible. Built in the classic 19-inch format, here with a silver anodised aluminium front.
Why the Ovation SA 6.3?
Because it stays calm where others start to struggle. 20 high-current MOS-FETs per channel deliver up to 180 amps of peak current – the reserve that impedance-critical speakers actually draw on. Supply comes from a 1000 VA toroidal transformer and three separate power supplies, so the output stages, processor and input circuitry don't get in each other's way. The input stages are fully balanced and fully DC-coupled. In numbers: damping factor above 500, signal-to-noise ratio of 101 dB(A), distortion below 0.01 percent, frequency response from under 5 hertz to over 100 kilohertz.
What you get
One RCA and one XLR high-level input each, used alternatively but not simultaneously, two bi-wire-capable speaker terminal pairs and a large, blue-lit graphic display. In the menu you set brightness, display mode, operating mode and speaker impedance, and can display the power being drawn if needed. The AIR trigger switches the power amplifier on and off together with the preamplifier. A remote control isn't included – without volume control, there'd be nothing for it to do anyway. This version comes with a silver anodised aluminium front.
Who is the Ovation SA 6.3 right for?
Plain talk: without a preamplifier, nothing happens here at all. The SA 6.3 has no volume control, no source inputs and no streaming on board. Anyone wanting everything in one chassis should go for an integrated amplifier. But anyone who deliberately separates things – preamplifier here, power amplifier there – and owns speakers that want more than good intentions gets a power amplifier that stays in control when things get demanding. And at 21 kilograms, you can still carry it alone.
Our verdict
The SA 6.3 doesn't make a fuss about itself. It delivers power, keeps the bass firm, stays neutral and disappears sonically behind the music – exactly what a good power amplifier should do. Anyone looking for warmth and bloom will find that one model up, with the tube. Anyone wanting precision and control has already found it here.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a preamplifier for the AVM Ovation SA 6.3?
Yes. Without a preamplifier, the SA 6.3 stays silent, as it has neither volume control nor inputs for sources. It works with a preamplifier such as the AVM Ovation PA 8.3 or the SD 8.3, connected via RCA or XLR. Both inputs are available, but only one can ever be used at a time.
What's the difference between the SA 6.3 and the SA 8.3?
The 8.3 plays in a bigger league: AVM states over 2 × 230 watts at 8 ohms, over 2 × 420 watts at 4 ohms and over 2 × 700 watts at 2 ohms for it, plus a tube input stage, dual-mono power supply and 24 instead of 20 MOS-FETs per channel. At 21 instead of 42 kilograms, the SA 6.3 is half the weight and measures as the tighter variant.
Can the AVM Ovation SA 6.3 be bridged to mono?
No. The manual describes no bridge or mono operation; AVM does not provide for this operating mode on the SA 6.3. For mono operation, there's the Ovation MA 6.3 instead. So anyone needing more power per channel switches to mono power amplifiers rather than bridging.
Can I switch the SA 6.3's two speaker outputs separately?
No. According to the manual, the two terminal pairs are internally paralleled and primarily intended for bi-wiring. There's no A/B switching between two pairs of speakers; both always run together. We're happy to check beforehand whether your speakers go along with that.
Which speakers suit the AVM Ovation SA 6.3?
With 2 × 200 watts at 8 ohms, 2 × 350 watts at 4 ohms, up to 180 amps of peak current and a damping factor above 500, the SA 6.3 confidently drives even large floorstanding speakers with an unruly impedance curve. Which ones specifically suit your room is something we're happy to work out together.

For comparison you'll find all power amplifiers in the overview, the matching preamplifiers right next door. And because a power amplifier only shows what it can do at the speaker: the floorstanding speakers and the cabling to go with it.
