AVM Ovation MA 8.3S Mono Power Amplifier Pair, Black

The AVM Ovation MA 8.3S is a pair of mono power amplifiers with a tube input stage: two monoblocks, each driving one channel with more than 600 watts into 8 ohms.

Two chassis, two channels, zero compromise on channel separation. The brushed black front keeps a low profile, as does the dimmed OLED display – the power behind it, less so.

Why the MA 8.3S?

AVM builds the Ovation S series by hand in Malsch. At the input of each monoblock sits a new anode-follower tube stage that delivers an ultra-wideband frequency response, followed by a dual differential input stage. The signal path is fully DC-coupled, and automatic offset compensation keeps it clean. The power stage uses 48 high-power MOSFETs, two low-leakage toroidal transformers of 1000 VA each and 544,000 µF of filter capacitance. On top comes a damping factor above 400 that keeps even unruly speakers on a short leash.

What you get

Per block over 600 watts into 8 ohms, over 1100 watts into 4 ohms and over 1800 watts into 2 ohms – according to AVM, not according to wishful thinking. The signal arrives via XLR or RCA. A trigger input (5–20 V DC) and the AVM AIR Trigger make the monoblocks wake up together with an AVM preamplifier such as the PAS 8.3S. Volume control, source selection and a DAC are deliberately not included: the MA 8.3S is a pure power amplifier and needs a preamplifier in front of it.

Who is the MA 8.3S for – and who is it not for?

For anyone who wants to drive demanding or power-hungry speakers with separate channels and brings the space, the mains supply and the budget. Plainly put: one block weighs 42 kilograms, 84 together, and power consumption is up to 3500 watts per unit – that is a question of rack and fuses, not a lifestyle decision. If you want less hardware and less effort, a stereo power amplifier such as the SA 8.3S is the better choice.

Do I need two MA 8.3S for stereo?

Yes, each monoblock amplifies exactly one channel. That is why we supply the MA 8.3S as a pair: two chassis for two speakers, each with its own power supply. This separates the channels consistently and gives the bass room to breathe.

How much power does the MA 8.3S deliver?

Per monoblock AVM specifies over 600 watts into 8 ohms, over 1100 watts into 4 ohms and over 1800 watts into 2 ohms. The damping factor is above 400. That is enough for impedance-critical speakers with a large current demand, without the amplifier breaking a sweat.

Which preamplifier suits the MA 8.3S?

Any preamplifier with a line output, balanced via XLR or unbalanced via RCA. Within the Ovation S family the PAS 8.3S is the obvious choice, because the AIR Trigger switches the monoblocks on and off together with the preamplifier. We will discuss with you which combination suits your speakers.

How much power does the MA 8.3S draw?

Without a signal each monoblock draws about 120 watts, in standby below 0.5 watts. The maximum is 3500 watts per unit at 230 volts. Running both blocks on the same fuse is therefore not a good idea – plan separate circuits.

How long is the warranty?
