The AVM MA 30.3 MK2 is a mono power amplifier from the AVM30 series that drives exactly one channel per chassis with 300 watts at 4 ohms.

Mono here means: one power amp per speaker, each with its own power supply and undivided power. AVM therefore ships the MA 30.3 MK2 as a pair – two black power blocks with a brushed aluminium front that together form a complete stereo power amp. They're compact. Restrained when it comes to drive, they are not.

Why the MA 30.3 MK2?

The mono design consistently separates the channels: each speaker gets its own chassis, its own power supply and its own amplification. A MOS-FET output stage running in Class A/AB operates on a 550 VA toroidal transformer with over 40,000 µF of filter capacitance and delivers 300 watts at 4 ohms and 180 watts at 8 ohms. The MK2 in the name isn't cosmetic: the first MA 30.3 series delivered 232 watts at 4 ohms and weighed 10.1 kilograms; the MK2 steps up to 300 watts and 12 kilograms. A damping factor of over 500 keeps the speaker firmly under control – even when the bass is having a disagreement with the room. Built by hand at the AVM factory in Malsch.

What you get

Two monoblocks that you connect to your preamp either balanced via XLR or via RCA – the two inputs can be used interchangeably. The doubled speaker terminals are internally paralleled and allow bi-wiring. The AIR function (AVM Intelligent Remote) switches both power amps on and off together with the preamp, with no extra trigger cable required; a trigger input is available regardless. Natural partners are the streaming preamplifiers AVM PAS 30.3 or AVM MP 30.3 from the same series – but in principle, any quality preamp with an XLR or RCA output will work. The colour changes nothing about the technology or connections.

Who is the MA 30.3 MK2 for – and who isn't it for?

Ideal if you're building a serious pre-/power amp combination and running speakers that demand current and control. Plain talk: the MA 30.3 MK2 is a pure power amplifier with no volume control and no sources of its own – without a preamp in front of it, it stays silent. It's mono, one channel per chassis; the doubled terminals are meant for bi-wiring, not bi-amping. If you want everything in one chassis, you're better off with an integrated amplifier like the AVM AS 30.3.
