The AVM Evolution CS 5.3 is a streaming integrated amplifier with a built-in CD drive and tube preamp, combining network streaming, ESS conversion, a calibratable MM/MC phono input and 2 × 350 watts of power amplifier output in a single unit.
It's the tube-equipped counterpart to the Evolution CS 3.3 – here in the Cellini Chrome version with a solid, hand-polished chrome front. Same power, same connections; the difference lies in the Tube Line Stage, which gives the sound warmth and an organic character.
Why the AVM Evolution CS 5.3?
The CS 5.3 is for anyone who wants the full feature set of the CS 3.3, plus the unmistakable character of a tube preamp – and, in this version, the most eye-catching front panel in the line-up. 2 × 350 watts at 4 Ω (2 × 180 watts at 8 Ω) drive even large floorstanding speakers with ease, and via outputs A and B you can even run two pairs. The tube line stage adds warmth to the signal without losing resolution; the preamp's total harmonic distortion is below 0.025%.
The digital section is built around a selected ESS9028PRO in a double-quad configuration with four converters per channel; the X-STREAM Engine streams high-resolution audio up to DSD256 and PCM 384 kHz/32-bit. The phono stage is calibratable, just as on the CS 3.3, and the tube's illumination can be set to blue or red from the menu.
What you get
Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz, HighResAudio and Roon work directly, with AirPlay 2 and internet radio built in – no subscription required. On top of that: a balanced XLR input and three RCA inputs, HDMI ARC for your TV, coaxial and optical digital inputs, a slot-in CD drive, USB-A for storage media, Bluetooth 5.0 and a headphone output on the front. It's controlled via the free RC X app; a wireless remote (RC 3 / RC 8 or RC 9 / RC 10) is available as an accessory.
Who is the Evolution CS 5.3 right for – and who isn't it for?
Let's be honest: the CS 5.3 in Cellini Chrome is for listeners who are after the warmer tube sound and are happy to treat themselves to an eye-catching front panel. If you prefer a neutral transistor sound, the CS 3.3 is the more affordable choice – you don't gain any extra power with the 5.3, both are equally strong. And for small rooms, the compact Inspiration CS 2.3 remains the leaner option.
Our verdict
Two premiums in one unit: one for the tube, one for the chrome front. Both pay into the same idea – a unit you never need to hide or apologize for in your living room. Technically, it remains the fully equipped Evolution with CD, streaming, phono and 2 × 350 watts.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Cellini Chrome version mean?
Cellini Chrome is AVM's most premium finish: a solid, hand-polished chrome front instead of the brushed aluminum fascia. Technically, the Evolution CS 5.3 is identical to the Black and Silver versions – same power, same connections, same tube preamp.
What does the CS 5.3's tube preamp bring to the table?
The Tube Line Stage gives the sound a warmer, slightly rounder character – pleasant for long listening sessions, without any loss of resolution. The preamp's distortion is rated by the manufacturer at below 0.025%. The CS 3.3 offers the same feature set with a neutral transistor preamp.
Is a remote control included?
No. The box contains the unit, two Wi-Fi/Bluetooth antennas, a power cable and gloves. The CS 5.3 is controlled via the free RC X app for iOS and Android. AVM offers the RC 3 / RC 8 and RC 9 / RC 10 wireless remotes separately as accessories.
Can I connect a turntable?
Yes. The CS 5.3 has a calibratable MM/MC phono input whose load resistance and capacitance can be set precisely to match your cartridge – directly from the menu or the RC X app, with no need to open the case.
