The Atoll P50 is a plug-in card that turns a line input of an Atoll amplifier into a full MM phono input.

The most elegant way to connect a turntable to an amplifier that has no phono input from the factory: no extra chassis, no plug-in power supply, no additional pair of cables behind the rack.

Why the P50?

Because it sits inside the amplifier and so shares its power supply and chassis shielding – two things an external entry-level phono stage can never offer at the same price. The circuit works with a low-noise JFET operational amplifier, plus polypropylene capacitors and precision resistors. The matching values are fixed to the MM standard: 47 kiloohms and 100 picofarads.

What you get

A phono input where there wasn't one before – and without the device looking any different. After installation, you simply select the repurposed AUX input on the amplifier, connect the turntable including the ground wire, and listen. The card fits the Atoll integrated amplifiers IN50 to IN400 and the preamplifiers PR100 to PR300 in the SE, Signature, and Evolution versions.

Who is the P50 suited for?

For everyone with an MM cartridge – so for the large part of the turntable world. In plain terms: it can't handle MC cartridges; anyone running or planning one should get the P100. The matching values are fixed, so there's nothing to tune. And the IN30 can't take it. You also lose the AUX input – anyone using all five line inputs should think that through beforehand.

Our verdict

For this price, one of the most sensible decisions there is – provided you have a matching Atoll amplifier. An external device of this quality costs a multiple, and here the rack and the power strip stay untouched. We check with you whether your device can take the card, and install it in-house. Frequently asked questions

Which Atoll devices does the P50 fit?
The integrated amplifiers IN50, IN80, IN100, IN200, IN300, and IN400, as well as the preamplifiers PR100, PR200, and PR300 – each in the SE, Signature, and Evolution versions. The only device it doesn't fit is the IN30. If in doubt, we'll check your device beforehand.

What's the difference between the P50 and the P100?
The P50 is a pure MM card with 40 dB gain and fixed matching values. The P100 can additionally handle MC with high and low output and has switchable impedance and capacitance. Anyone running only MM doesn't need the P100.

Do I lose an input because of the P50?
Yes. The card converts the AUX line input into a phono input – no additional RCA sockets are added. So afterward you have one fewer line input. With five line inputs available, this rarely matters in practice.

Can I install the P50 myself?
Installation requires opening the device. We recommend leaving that to us – our technician fits the card, checks that it works, and makes sure the warranty stays intact. This usually doesn't take long.

Why buy the Atoll P50 at HD Zürisee?
Because we check beforehand whether the card fits your device and your cartridge, and take care of the installation at the same time. Our own technician does this in-house – you get the device back ready to use.

Goes well with

It belongs in an Atoll integrated amplifier or preamplifier. Ahead of it, a turntable with an MM cartridge – and a good phono cable.
