The Atoll DC200 is a plug-in card that adds three digital inputs to an Atoll CD player, turning it into a D/A converter for external sources.
A CD player has a good converter on board that sits idle most of the time – whenever no disc is playing. The DC200 puts an end to that waste.
Why the DC200?
Because it turns one device into two, without a second chassis having to go into the rack. After installation your CD player accepts signals via coaxial, Toslink, and asynchronous USB-B, and converts them using the Burr-Brown chip it already has. An XMOS interface with Atoll's own firmware handles the USB input – asynchronously, so the clock comes from the player, not from the computer.
What you get
A connection for everything digital in the living room. The TV goes in optically, the streamer via coaxial, the computer via USB – and afterward everything sounds the way your CDs sound. That's the point: you don't get just any converter, but exactly the one you already know and like. The card fits the Atoll players CD50, CD80, CD100, and CD200 in Signature and Evolution versions.
Who is the DC200 suited for?
For anyone with a matching Atoll CD player who wants to connect a TV, a streamer, or a computer without buying another device. In plain terms: it has no converter chip of its own – the sound quality is that of your player, not better. It doesn't fit amplifiers; that's what the DA100 or DA200 are for. And under Windows the USB input needs a driver; under macOS and Linux it doesn't.
Our verdict
One of the most worthwhile upgrades in the Atoll range – especially when a TV is in the same room. Instead of buying a mediocre external converter for the same money, you use the good one that's already there. Frequently asked questions
Which Atoll CD players does the DC200 fit?
The CD players CD50, CD80, CD100, and CD200 – in both Signature and Evolution versions. It's not intended for amplifiers; there the DAC cards DA100 or DA200 come into play. We check your device beforehand.
Does the DC200 have its own converter chip?
No. The DC200 only adds the digital inputs and the receiver electronics; conversion happens via the Burr-Brown chip already sitting in the CD player. So you get exactly your player's sound character – just for external sources too.
What resolution does the DC200 handle?
Up to 24-bit / 192 kHz via the coaxial and optical inputs. The USB-B input works asynchronously via an XMOS interface with Atoll's own firmware and accepts 16 to 24-bit up to 192 kHz. That covers TVs, streamers, and computers.
Do I need a driver for USB?
Under Windows, yes – Atoll provides the matching driver as a download, and we'll set it up with you if needed. macOS and Linux recognize the input without any driver installation. The coaxial and optical inputs never need software.
Why buy the Atoll DC200 at HD Zürisee?
Because we check whether your player can take the card, handle the installation in-house, and test that it works with your sources. If needed, we also set up the USB driver right away – you get the device back ready to use.
