Argon Audio SA2 Streaming Amplifier, White
Argon Audio SA2 Streaming Amplifier, White

The Argon Audio SA2 in White is a network-enabled integrated amplifier that combines streaming, digital-to-analogue conversion, a phono preamp and a power amp in a single compact unit. The light-coloured case is so unobtrusive that it simply doesn't stand out in an open-plan kitchen or a bedroom — which is pretty much the whole idea.
Why the SA2?
Hi-fi systems usually grow sideways: first the amplifier, then the streamer, then the DAC. The SA2 reverses that and packs everything into a footprint of 22 by 25 centimetres. The Class D power amp delivers 2 × 50 watts into 8 ohms, and 2 × 100 watts into 4 ohms. A 32-bit ESS Sabre DAC running in fully balanced mode handles up to 24 bit/192 kHz, with total harmonic distortion staying below 0.03 percent.
What you get
The SA2 joins your network over WLAN; if you'd rather run a cable, an optional USB-Ethernet adapter takes care of that. Playback runs via AirPlay 2, Chromecast built-in, Spotify Connect or Tidal Connect, controlled either from your usual music app or via DTS Play-Fi. On top of that there's HDMI ARC for the TV, an optical input, RCA and a phono MM input. The pre-out is free for a subwoofer, in case you'd like a bit more down low.
Who is the SA2 right for — and who isn't it for?
Plain talk: the SA2 doesn't work as a headphone hub — it simply has no headphone jack. Nor is it built to drive large, power-hungry floorstanding speakers in a big room. As the networked heart of a second room, a home office or a tidy living-room system, though, it does exactly what you'd hope from a device like this — quietly, coolly and without any fuss.
Our verdict
A device for anyone who wants to spread music through the house without every room looking like a tech showroom. In White, the SA2 all but disappears visually while taking the lead role functionally. Be honest: when did you last actually use your system rather than just switch it on? Frequently asked questions
Can I run the Argon Audio SA2 in multiple rooms?
Yes. Via DTS Play-Fi, AirPlay 2 and Chromecast you can add the SA2 to a wireless multiroom system and play music in several rooms in sync or independently. Setup happens via an app on your smartphone or tablet, and you can add further zones at any time later on.
Does the SA2 work without a paid streaming subscription?
Yes, without restriction. Internet radio, your own music files on the network via UPnP, vinyl through the phono input and TV sound via HDMI ARC all work without a subscription. A service like Tidal or Qobuz is an option you can use, but not a requirement.
Can I connect my TV to the SA2?
Yes, via the HDMI ARC input. The TV sends its sound to the amplifier over a single HDMI cable, and thanks to CEC you can keep adjusting the volume with the TV remote. Alternatively, the optical input is available if your TV doesn't support ARC.
Why buy the SA2 from HD Zürisee?
Because with networked devices, a lot comes down to the details: WLAN coverage, app setup, speaker choice, multiroom expansion. We go through this with you instead of just handing you a box, deliver and install on-site if you'd like, and stay reachable for questions afterwards.
Goes well with
So nothing's missing in the second room: bookshelf speakers for the sideboard, wall speakers where space is tight, the matching cable to go with it, or a browse through the Argon Audio world.
