Frequently asked questions

Which crossover frequency should I set on the Malmö Sub 8?

As a rule of thumb, roughly where your main speakers roll off – for small bookshelf speakers usually between 70 and 90 Hz. The adjustment range runs from 40 to 120 Hz. If the crossover is handled by an AV receiver with its own bass management, turn the control on the subwoofer to the top end.

How large can the room be for the Malmö Sub 8?

In living spaces up to around 25 square metres, the Sub 8 performs confidently. Beyond that it still provides a foundation, but has to work noticeably harder. For larger or open-plan rooms, the Malmö Sub 10 with its 25 cm driver is the more relaxed solution – even at the same amplifier power.

What's the phase switch on the subwoofer for?

It flips the signal by 180 degrees, compensating for timing differences between the subwoofer and the main speakers. If the sub sits far from the front, the bass could otherwise partially cancel out. Simply compare both settings with the same piece of music and keep the stronger one.
