The Argon Audio Forus Center in White is a passive center speaker for multi-channel systems, reproducing dialogue and voices via the center channel of an AV receiver.

White TV walls have become more common, but white speakers are still rare enough to stand out. Against a light wall and on light furniture, the flat bar becomes practically invisible – which particularly helps with the center, since it's the one speaker in the set that inevitably sits right in the field of view.

Why the Forus Center?

Because it solves a problem many people can only name once it's gone: dialogue that gets lost in the noise. Two 4-inch paper cones and the 0.75-inch silk dome split the work at 3000 Hz, so the entire vocal range comes from one source, right below the picture. No more fumbling with the volume dial, no more reaching for subtitles on every late-night film.

What you get

A dedicated third channel with 86 dB sensitivity and 4-ohm impedance that any off-the-shelf AV receiver handles without trouble. The frequency response of 70 to 20,000 Hz is precisely tailored to this task: no unnecessary deep bass, which the subwoofer takes on anyway in the set, but full focus on the range where voices live. Connection is via gold-plated single-wire terminals.

Who is the Forus Center suited for – and who isn't it for?

Honestly: if your TV is only connected to a soundbar, this center can't be hooked up – that requires an AV receiver with its own center output. It also has no role in a pure stereo setup. But if you already listen in multi-channel and have so far left the middle to the front speakers, this is the most noticeable single upgrade to your home cinema.

Our verdict

Of all the speakers in a surround set, the center changes the experience the most – and it's the one most often bought last. The white finish also takes the tech look away from the whole system. Which receiver, which crossover frequency, which level: we at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil set that up with you, by phone on 044 680 22 00, via WhatsApp on 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls) or by email at shop@hdzuerisee.ch.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set the level of the center speaker correctly?

First let your AV receiver's automatic room calibration run. If dialogue is still hard to understand afterwards, raise the center manually by one to two decibels – that's usually enough. Many receivers also have a dialogue or voice mode that emphasises exactly this range.

At what height and orientation should the Forus Center go?

As close as possible to the centre of the picture, so directly below or above the TV. If it sits noticeably lower than your ears, tilt it slightly upward towards the seating position – a felt wedge under the front edge is enough. Let it stand freely, don't place it in an enclosed cabinet.

How deep does the Forus Center play, and do I need a subwoofer with it?

It reaches down to 70 Hz. That's entirely sufficient for voices, but not for explosions and film scores. In a home cinema, the subwoofer takes over below that anyway, which the AV receiver usually crosses over at 80 Hz. So a subwoofer in the set is clearly recommended.

Is the Forus Center supplied individually?

Yes, the center is sold as a single unit – unlike stereo pairs, which always come as two. In a 5.1 system you need exactly one. It weighs 4.3 kilograms; front cover and rubber feet are included.

Why buy the Forus Center in White from HD Zürisee?

Because the setup matters at least as much as the speaker itself. We help with channel assignment, distances and levels, and set up the system at your home on request. And we'll tell you if your receiver is the weakest link – even when that's not a sales pitch.

So the center isn't left alone: a subwoofer for the foundation, the AV receiver as the control centre, more ideas in home cinema or the full range from Argon Audio.
