Argon Audio Forus Center Speaker, Black (Each)

The Argon Audio Forus Center is a passive 2-way center speaker with two 4-inch woofers and a 0.75-inch silk dome tweeter, reproducing the dialogue channel in a multi-channel home cinema setup.

Around 60 percent of a film's soundtrack runs through this one channel: dialogue, narration, most of the storyline. In Black, the flat bar disappears under the screen, where nobody notices it – until you unplug it and suddenly need subtitles again.

Why the Forus Center?

Two 4-inch paper cones on the left and right, the silk dome in between, crossover at 3000 Hz: the classic horizontal layout, cleanly executed here. At 13.9 centimetres tall, the bar stays flat enough to sit in front of the TV without intruding into the picture. 43 centimetres of width still gives enough volume to keep men's voices from sounding thin – the typical weak point of mini centers.

The missing third channel, timbre-matched to the rest of the family. Because the Forus 55, Forus 5 and the wall models use the same driver philosophy, a voice moving from the left speaker across the center to the right doesn't change colour along the way. Who is the Forus Center suited for – and who isn't it for?

Let's be blunt: for pure stereo, you don't need it – two speakers are enough. An AV receiver with a center channel is essential; a stereo amplifier can't do anything with it. And if your front speakers are from a noticeably higher class, the Forus Center becomes the weakest link – think bigger in that case. But if you're building a coherent Forus set or upgrading from a soundbar, this hits the mark.

Do I really need a dedicated center speaker?

Without a center, the two front speakers create a phantom center. That only works from the one perfect seat – off to the side, voices drift towards the nearer speaker. A real center keeps dialogue locked to the picture, for everyone on the sofa. That's exactly what the Forus Center is built for.

How do I connect the Forus Center?

It's passive and is connected with ordinary speaker cable to the center output of an AV receiver. The gold-plated single-wire terminals accept banana plugs or bare wire. Then set distance and level in the receiver's room-calibration wizard – almost every unit does this automatically.

Does the Forus Center fit under any TV?

It's 43 centimetres wide, 13.9 tall and 16.1 deep, so it fits most TV furniture and sideboards. Make sure it isn't covered by the bottom edge of the screen. The bass reflex port sits at the back, so leave a few centimetres of clearance to the rear wall.
