The Argon Audio Forus 5 is a passive 2-way bookshelf speaker with a 5.25-inch woofer, a 1-inch soft-dome tweeter and a rear-firing bass-reflex port that plays off an amplifier of your choice. White is the variant for bright rooms: it stays visually in the background instead of standing on the shelf like a black block – and delivers exactly the same sound as its darker siblings.
Why the Forus 5?
A 5.25-inch paper/fibre cone and a 1-inch soft dome with a neodymium magnet share the work from 2,700 Hz. That crossover point sits low enough that the tweeter only takes over once the voice is already established – which gives a calm, coherent midrange. Down below, the rear bass-reflex port provides the foundation down to 55 Hz. 4 ohms, 86 dB: uncomplicated for almost any electronics.
What you get
A pair of speakers in White with magnetically attached front grilles, plus rubber feet for a sideboard or shelf. Gold-plated screw terminals accept bare wire, spade connectors or banana plugs. And if you want to save floor space, use the integrated wall mount on the back – with a little distance from the wall so the port can breathe.
Who is the Forus 5 suited for – and who isn't it for?
Honestly: if you're after an all-in-one solution with streaming and a built-in amplifier, go for the active Argon models instead – this one needs electronics in front of it. If you're mainly planning a home cinema with deep bass, budget for a subwoofer. But if you want to turn a bright living room into a proper stereo room without it looking the part, this is the least conspicuous way to get there.
Our verdict
The Forus 5 in White is the diplomatic compromise between sound ambition and interior-design peace – and it wins both arguments. Compared with the smaller Forus 4, it has 5.25 instead of 4 inches of cone, 55 instead of 60 Hz and a 1-inch instead of 0.75-inch tweeter on paper; in the room, you notice it mainly in the midrange. Frequently asked questions
Which amplifier do I need for the Forus 5?
A perfectly ordinary stereo amplifier or receiver. With 86 dB sensitivity at 4 ohms, the Forus 5 is undemanding enough for small integrated amplifiers, yet it still benefits from a bit more headroom. We're happy to help you work out which unit suits your room.
Does the white finish yellow over time?
Argon Audio publishes no figures on long-term behaviour or light-fastness, so we won't promise anything here. In practice, what helps with any light-coloured furniture helps here too: don't leave it in direct sunlight permanently, and dust the front grille dry rather than wiping it wet.
Is the Forus 5 enough without a subwoofer?
In small and medium rooms, usually yes. The 5.25-inch woofer and the rear bass-reflex port reach down to 55 Hz, which covers most pop, jazz and classical music. For film and electronic music with deep bass, a subwoofer via the amplifier is worthwhile.
What's the difference between the Forus 5 and the Forus 5 Wall?
The Forus 5 is a freestanding bookshelf speaker with a 5.25-inch cone and a 1-inch tweeter. The Forus 5 Wall is a flat wall-mount model with a 5-inch cone and a 0.75-inch tweeter, 13 cm deep and with keyhole mounting. Same family, different job.
Why buy the Forus 5 from HD Zürisee?
Because we'll tell you if another model suits you better. We take the time to talk through placement, amplifier matching and whether you really need a subwoofer – with years of experience, our own technician, and no sales pressure.
Goes well with
The rest of the chain: an amplifier to drive it, speaker stands for freestanding placement, decent-quality cables – and if it's going on the wall, the wall speakers from the same Argon Audio world.
