The Argon Audio Forus 5 Wall is a passive 2-way wall speaker with a 5-inch mid-woofer, a 0.75-inch soft dome and a bass reflex enclosure, mounted directly on the wall via an integrated keyhole hanger. White is the finish for light-coloured walls: it lets the speaker blend into the wall instead of staging it as a dark rectangle.

Why the Forus 5 Wall?

The calculation behind every wall speaker is: depth out, area in. The Forus 5 Wall builds only 13 centimetres deep, but measures 29.7 × 42 centimetres across the front – and so reaches a 50 Hz lower cutoff frequency. That's deeper than the freestanding Forus 5. The 5-inch paper/fibre cone works up to 2,700 Hz, above which a 0.75-inch soft dome with neodymium magnet takes over.

What you get

Two white speakers with magnetically attached front grilles and gold-plated terminals. Mounting is kept deliberately simple: a keyhole slot in the cabinet, one screw per side, hang it – vertically for stereo next to the TV, horizontally if it's going below the screen. Any stereo amplifier or AV receiver with standard speaker terminals provides the drive.

Who is the Forus 5 Wall suited for – and who isn't it for?

Straight talk: White disguises the size better than Black, but it doesn't disappear. 42 centimetres of height per side is a statement – if you're only after rear speakers for a home cinema, the smaller Forus 4 Wall is often the better call. It isn't active either, so an amplifier belongs in front of it. But if you want full-fledged stereo sound and don't have a single square centimetre of floor space free, this is the most consistent solution in the Forus family.

Our verdict

On a white wall, the Forus 5 Wall gets about as close to invisible as a speaker this size can get – yet sounds like considerably more than it shows. The jump over the Forus 4 Wall is in both spec sheets: 5 instead of 4 inches of cone, 50 instead of 60 Hz, a 2,700 instead of 3,000 Hz crossover. Frequently asked questions

At what height should I mount the Forus 5 Wall?

As a stereo pair, ideally so the tweeter sits close to ear height when seated. As a surround channel, it can hang higher, then angled slightly toward the listening position. The keyhole hanger allows vertical and horizontal mounting, so you have flexibility.

How deep is the Forus 5 Wall?

13 centimetres. That means it barely sticks out further from the wall than a large picture frame and needs no floor space. Width and height, at 29.7 and 42 centimetres, are substantial, though – that's the price for bass down to 50 Hz.

Is the Forus 5 Wall an active speaker?

No, it's passive and has neither an amplifier nor streaming on board. It's connected to an amplifier or AV receiver like any classic speaker – gold-plated single-wire terminals, 4 ohms, 85 dB sensitivity. That makes it freely combinable.

Does the Forus 5 Wall sound the same as the Forus 5?

Similar, but not identical. The Wall uses a 5-inch cone and a 0.75-inch tweeter, the Forus 5 bookshelf speaker uses 5.25 inches and 1 inch. The Wall reaches deeper at 50 Hz, the Forus 5 is a bit louder at 86 dB. Both cross over at 2,700 Hz.

Why buy the Forus 5 Wall from HD Zürisee?

Because a wall speaker is a decision made with wall anchors – one you want to get right the first time. We go through position, height, cable routing and the right amplifier with you, and our own technician is still there once the speakers have long since been hung.

Goes well with

What else belongs with it: an amplifier or AV receiver to drive it, a centre speaker for dialogue in home cinema, proper cable for the wall run – or the other wall speakers and the whole Argon Audio world.
