Argon Audio Forus 55 Floorstanding Speaker, White (Pair)

The Argon Audio Forus 55 in White is a passive 2.5-way floorstanding speaker with 88 dB sensitivity and 4-ohm impedance, used in stereo systems and as the front channel in a home cinema.

White speakers have an advantage you only notice once they're set up: in front of a light wall, they nearly dissolve visually. The slim tower looks lighter than its actual 12.2 kilograms, and in Nordic-style rooms with lots of white and light wood, it blends in without anyone doing a double take.

Why the Forus 55?

Because the priorities here were set sensibly. Instead of a high-gloss finish and dual bi-wiring terminals, the budget went into a 21-millimetre-thick baffle, two solid 5.25-inch paper cones, and a silk dome with neodymium drive that takes over at 3000 Hz. That's the order in which a speaker becomes good – not the order that photographs best.

Full-grown frequency coverage from 45 to 20,000 Hz from a cabinet that's not even 20 centimetres wide. Who is the Forus 55 suited for – and who isn't it for?

Honestly: if your system is a TV and nothing else, a soundbar is the more honest recommendation. The Forus 55 requires an amplifier and wants cables in the room. At a seating distance under two metres, a compact speaker also performs more confidently. But if you want to properly listen to music, have a few metres of distance, and don't want to set up a cabinet, you're exactly right here.

Frequently asked questions

How loud does the Forus 55 get in a larger living room?

With 88 dB sensitivity, the Forus 55 belongs to the easy-to-drive middle field. In rooms up to around 30 square metres, it reaches levels without trouble that most people already find too loud. In very large or open-plan rooms, an amplifier with plenty of headroom helps more than raw wattage.

Are spikes included with the Forus 55?

No. Argon includes magnetic front covers and rubber feet, not spikes. On parquet or tiles, the rubber feet are the friendlier solution anyway. On thick-pile carpet, spikes can make sense – they're available as an accessory, just ask us.

Does a white speaker yellow over time?

With modern lacquers and films, that's barely an issue anymore, but direct, prolonged sunlight will eventually bleach any surface. If possible, don't place the speakers in blazing midday sun in front of a window front. For cleaning, a slightly damp cloth without abrasives is enough.

Can I later expand the Forus 55 into a home cinema?

Yes. The Forus 55 then takes on the left and right front channels, joined by a Forus Center for dialogue and surround speakers at the rear. Because all Forus models use the same driver family, the sound stays consistent. An AV receiver replaces the stereo amplifier in that case.
