The AudioQuest Record Brush is an antistatic record brush that lifts loose dust out of the groove and discharges static electricity via conductive gold contacts on the handle. Two rows of finest carbon fibers reach right down to the groove bottom, where a microfiber cloth and blowing have long since given up.

Why brush before every side?

Vinyl attracts dust because it builds up an electrostatic charge while playing – and the more charge, the more stubbornly the dust clings. That's exactly where the combination of conductive fibers and gold contacts comes in: the fibers pick up the particles, the contacts drain the charge through your hand. Ten seconds before dropping the needle, and the record plays more quietly.

What you get – honestly assessed

The market for carbon-fiber brushes is large, and the differences are smaller than the packaging suggests. The point where things actually diverge here is grounding: many affordable brushes have conductive fibers but no conductive path from the brush body to the hand – the charge stays right where it was. This one has the contacts exactly where you'd grip it anyway. On top of that come many very fine fibers instead of fewer, thicker ones.

Who is the Record Brush for – and who isn't it for?

For anyone who listens to vinyl and doesn't want to plow the dust into the groove with the needle every time. Straight talk: a dry brush doesn't get dried-in grime, fingerprints, or leftover residue from old cleaning agents out of the groove – for that you need a wet cleaning. If you're trying to rescue a dusty flea-market collection, start there and use the brush afterward for upkeep.

Our verdict

The tool that should sit on every turntable stand – not because it works miracles, but because it does the obvious job well and lasts a record's lifetime. Frequently asked questions

How do I use the record brush correctly?

Hold it at the golden contacts, set the fibers flat onto the groove while the platter is spinning, and let the record run through one or two revolutions. Then slowly pull the brush toward the edge of the record so the loosened dust comes along instead of staying behind.

Does the brush replace a record-cleaning machine?

No. A dry brush picks up loose dust and reduces static. Dried-in grime, fingerprints, and residue from old cleaning agents sit deeper and only come off wet. The two complement each other: wet occasionally and for new arrivals, dry before every side. Don't expect miracles from any brush.

What sets it apart from a cheap carbon brush?

Above all, the discharge path. Many cheap brushes have conductive fibers but no conductive path to the hand, so the charge stays on the record. Here, gold contacts on the handle drain the static through you. On top of that come finer fibers in two rows and cleaner build quality.

Does regular brushing also protect the stylus?

Yes. What isn't in the groove can't collect on the stylus cantilever or act as an abrasive. Less dust means less wear on stylus and record, and a quieter sound. For an effort of ten seconds per side, that's the most affordable way to preserve your collection's value.

Why buy the Record Brush from HD Zürisee?

Because vinyl isn't a side show for us. We'll show you the whole care chain, from the brush to stylus cleaning to wet washing, and tell you where the next step really pays off. Advice from Wädenswil, by phone, WhatsApp or email.
