Thorens TD 124 DD Exclusive

The Thorens TD 124 DD Exclusive is the high-end edition of the 124 DD icon — with a 12-inch TP 124 tonearm, internal pure silver wiring and a copper platter mat. Built on the 140th Anniversary Edition, developed consistently further.

The base remains the multi-award-winning TD 124 DD with its powerful direct drive. The Exclusive Edition lifts it to reference level with hand-picked components — for anyone who wants the maximum out of the legend.

Why the Exclusive Edition?

Because of the upgrades that make the difference. The new 12-inch TP 124's greater length significantly reduces tracking error — minimizing distortion across the entire side of the record. The internal pure silver wiring keeps the signal clean all the way to the output, especially effective with quiet MC cartridges. A platter mat of pure copper improves the acoustic coupling between record and platter and dampens resonances. And the included TPN 124 linear power supply provides an especially clean, stable power feed.

What you hear

Even more calm, even finer resolution. The longer arm and the pure silver in the signal path pinpoint details and tonal colors more precisely, and the copper mat takes the last bit of restlessness out of the sound. The result is big, calm and high-resolution — analog playback at reference level.

Who is the Exclusive Edition for?

For analog enthusiasts who want the uncompromising best of the 124 DD platform — 12-inch geometry, silver wiring and copper included. The ideal partner is the EMT Tondose (SME) from Switzerland, developed specifically for the TP 124, with ruby cantilever, Gyger stylus and gold-wire coils.

Honestly: This is top-drawer high-end — built to still delight in 20 years. To get the optimum, you need a first-class MC phono stage. We'll work out in person which cartridge configuration is ideal for you.

Frequently asked questions

What sets the Exclusive apart from the standard 124 DD?

Four things: the 12-inch TP 124 tonearm instead of 9 inch (lower tracking error), the internal pure silver wiring, the pure copper platter mat, and the included TPN 124 linear power supply. Together they lift the 124 DD platform to reference level.

Is a cartridge included?

No — this version is supplied without a cartridge. It's designed around the specially developed EMT Tondose; on request, the Exclusive is also available complete with the EMT Tondose already fitted. We'll work out in person, in Wädenswil, which configuration is ideal for you.

What is the EMT Tondose?

A Swiss moving-coil cartridge in the design of the legendary "Tondose" from broadcast technology, specifically optimized for the 12-inch TP 124. With an SME connector, ruby cantilever, Gyger stylus and gold-wire coils, it aims for outstanding channel separation, dynamics and resolution of detail.

What does the 12-inch arm bring?

A longer tonearm guides the stylus through the groove at a flatter angle. This reduces tracking error and therefore distortion — especially in the critical inner grooves.

Why buy the Exclusive Edition at HD Zürisee?
