Why the EVO 5.2?

The 165 mm Kevlar woofer doesn't have to handle vocals and guitars here too — that's the job of the 50 mm dome, which takes over from 800 Hz. The result is a clarity of separation you don't normally get in a cabinet this size. The cabinet itself is built so quiet, with ResoFrame bracing and ResoSeal damping, that it doesn't start chiming in at higher levels. And like the whole EVO 5 series, the 5.2 uses the SLPP port on the underside instead of a tube at the back.

What you hear

The difference to the 5.1 lies less in the bass than in the mids: voices gain body and stand tangibly in the room, rather than just being cleanly placed. Add to that real depth down to 44 Hz (±3 dB), measurable down to 38 Hz — for a bookshelf speaker, that's a statement. With a maximum SPL of 105 dB, there's still headroom left even for a lively gathering.

Who is the EVO 5.2 for?

The 5.2 is for anyone who wants the sound of a floorstander but not its footprint. It suits rooms from around 18 to 35 m² and plays classical, jazz and vocal pop especially convincingly. Let's be blunt: it doesn't belong on a desk — nearly 50 cm tall and 15 kg per speaker will overwhelm you in the near field. And a wobbly shelf turns the carefully quietened cabinet back into a drum. Above all, midrange with body. In the 5.2, a dedicated 50 mm fabric dome takes over the range between 800 Hz and 4.3 kHz, where voices and instruments sit. The 165 mm woofer can focus entirely on the bass, reaching deeper and with more authority as a result.

Do I still need a subwoofer with the Wharfedale EVO 5.2?

For music in medium-sized rooms, generally not. With 44 Hz (±3 dB) and a bass extension down to 38 Hz, the 5.2 delivers a foundation many floorstanders have yet to reach. Only if you're running home cinema with very deep effects does a subwoofer make sense as an addition.

Does the EVO 5.2 fit on a normal sideboard?
