The Ortofon Stylus 2M Mono is the original replacement stylus for the mono cartridges Ortofon 2M Mono and 2MR Mono (Rega) – a nude spherical stylus as a plug-in unit, made for mono microgroove LPs.
Why the Stylus 2M Mono?
Genuine mono playback lives from the right stylus: the nude spherical tip (R 18 µm) runs cleanly in the mono groove and tracks purely horizontally, while the body's mono generator filters out the vertical interference. If the stylus is worn, this stylus unit brings your 2M Mono back to factory condition without any tool drama.
What you'll get
The calm, cohesive mono sound back: a stable centre, more substance, less noise than with a stereo system on a mono pressing. And a fresh stylus protects your often rare mono treasures from unnecessary wear.
Who's the Stylus 2M Mono for – and who isn't it for?
Fits the 2M Mono and 2MR Mono body. Straight talk: it belongs to the mono group 2M Mono / 2M 78 – physically related to the 78 stylus, but with a different tip radius: R 18 µm for mono vinyl, R 65 µm for shellac. It doesn't belong on stereo bodies (Red/Blue/Bronze/Black).
Our verdict
The right stylus for genuine mono playback as a pure stylus replacement. Brings your 2M Mono easily back up to par – important for any serious mono collection.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Stylus 2M Mono fit my 2M or 2MR Mono?
Yes. The Stylus 2M Mono fits the 2M Mono and the 2MR Mono (Rega). It's specially made for mono microgroove LPs (33/45 rpm) and uses the body's genuine mono generator.
Can I also play 78 rpm shellac with it?
No. The mono stylus has R 18 µm for mono vinyl; shellac needs the significantly larger R 65 µm radius of the Stylus 2M 78. Both belong to the same mono group but are ground for different grooves.
Do I need a special preamp for genuine mono?
No, a normal MM phono input is enough – the Stylus 2M Mono already generates the mono signal mechanically in the generator. A mono switch on the amplifier is nice but not mandatory. What matters more is the right stylus and a clean setup. We'll tell you what suits your chain.
Why buy the Stylus 2M Mono at HD Zürisee?
Because mono playback is its own chapter, one we know from decades of practice – from the right stylus to preamp settings. Genuine Ortofon, advised by Andy and Mauri, at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil.
