Collection: Speakers

Speakers are the last and most important stage in any HiFi chain: they turn the electrical signal into what you actually hear.

No matter how good the amplifier, streamer or turntable is, in the end it's the speaker that decides whether technology becomes music. That's exactly why it pays to not guess here and not cut corners at the wrong end.

Why speakers matter so much

No other component in the chain shapes the sound as strongly. Changing an amplifier is a nuance, changing speakers is a new room. Floorstanding, bookshelf, active or streaming speakers: every design has its ideal use, and none is inherently better. Better is whichever fits your room, your music and your amplifier.

What you'll find at HD Zürisee

At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil you'll find speakers from DALI, Canton, Focal, Scansonic HD and more: from the compact bookshelf model for the sideboard to the full-size floorstander that effortlessly fills a living room. Plus active and streaming models with the amplifier already built in, and the matching stands, cables and amplifiers to go with them.

Which design for whom? (Plain talk)

Small room or second system: bookshelf speakers. Living room from around 15 m2 with a demand for depth: floorstanding speakers. Little room for equipment and no interest in hunting for an amplifier: active or streaming. Plain talk: the most expensive speaker in the wrong room sounds worse than the right one at half the price. We'll tell you honestly where the line between audibly better and simply more expensive runs.

Our verdict

Speakers are the one component where good listening before you buy pays off the most, because spec sheets don't reveal the sound. Tell us about your room and what you like to listen to, and we'll narrow the huge selection down to the models that really suit you.

Common questions

Floorstanding or bookshelf speakers – which is better?

Neither, as such – it depends on the room. Up to about 15 m2 or with limited space, bookshelf speakers show their strengths; beyond that, floorstanders deliver more depth and authority. In a direct comparison, the answer for your room is usually clear within two minutes.

Which amplifier fits my speakers?

That depends on efficiency, impedance and room size, not just wattage. We pair speakers and amplifier so that both work in harmony, honestly based on sound and suitability rather than margin. Tell us your model, and we'll recommend a match.

What's the difference between active and passive speakers?

With active speakers, the power amp is already built into the cabinet, so you don't need a separate amplifier. Passive speakers are more flexible when it comes to choosing an amplifier. Active is often simpler and more precise, passive more expandable. We'll work out together which path makes sense for you.

Do I need expensive speakers for good sound?

No. Beyond a certain level, the interplay of room, placement and amplifier matters more than the price tag. A well-placed speaker in the right room beats one twice as expensive in the wrong spot. We advise based on effect, not price.

Why buy speakers at HD Zürisee?

Because years of experience tell us which speakers hold up in everyday use and which only sound good in the brochure. You get an honest recommendation matched to your room, amplifier and music, plus delivery, installation and your own technician. Listening sessions where possible, advice any time.
