The WiiM Bar is a soundbar with Dolby Atmos that starts as a 3.0.2 system and can be wirelessly expanded into a 5.1.2 home cinema. In White, it's the version for bright living rooms – technically identical to the black version.

Why the WiiM Bar?

Because it isn't built as a dead end. Most soundbars stay for life what they were on day one. The WiiM Bar starts as a 3.0.2 system with three front channels and two upward-firing height channels – and when you later miss surround sound, two WiiM Sound or Sound Lite units join as wireless rears and a WiiM Sub Pro as the sub. Result: 5.1.2, without a single cable across the room.

It connects via HDMI eARC, plus there's an optical input, aux and USB. And because it's a WiiM, music also plays directly via Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Chromecast, DLNA and Roon Ready – so the soundbar also replaces the streaming speaker in the living room.

What you hear

Eight drivers and four passive radiators share 135 watts of system power. The three mid-woofer chassis with oval diaphragms provide the fundamental tone, the separate tweeters handle speech intelligibility – the point where most TVs fail. The two upward-firing wideband drivers generate the height information for Dolby Atmos.

Decoded formats include Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus as well as DTS and DTS:X. RoomFit calibration adapts everything to your room via your smartphone's microphone, and night mode and dialogue enhancement are on board.

Who is the WiiM Bar for?

For anyone who wants to noticeably improve TV sound without building a multi-channel system – and for anyone who plans to do exactly that later anyway. The step-by-step expansion makes it a rare soundbar that can grow with your ambitions.

Straight talk: No AirPlay 2 and no HDMI input – the Bar hangs off your TV's eARC output, and you keep plugging sources into the TV as before. If you're planning a genuine home cinema system with passive speakers and an AV receiver, you're better served by that anyway; a soundbar is always a compromise in favour of looks. An honest compromise, but a compromise nonetheless.

Our verdict

The WiiM Bar is the first soundbar in this price class where the upgrade path was thought through from the start. Together with the Sub Pro and two Sound Lite units, it becomes a full 5.1.2 system for a price that barely buys you an AV receiver elsewhere. In White, it blends in noticeably more calmly under bright TVs and against white walls than a black bar.

Frequently asked questions

How do I expand the WiiM Bar into a 5.1.2 system?

You add two WiiM Sound or Sound Lite units as wireless rear speakers and a WiiM Sub Pro as a subwoofer. Everything is assigned and calibrated together in the WiiM Home app. Apart from power, none of the additional speakers needs a cable – which makes the upgrade realistic even in rented flats.

Do I need a TV with HDMI eARC?

For full-quality Dolby Atmos, yes. The Bar also works with simple HDMI ARC, but then only with compressed audio formats. Alternatively, there's the optical input, which carries Dolby Digital. Tell us your TV model and we'll clarify it upfront.

Does the WiiM Bar have AirPlay 2?

No. Supported are Chromecast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Amazon Music Cast, DLNA and Roon Ready, but no AirPlay 2. For TV sound, that doesn't matter because it runs over HDMI – it only becomes relevant if you want to stream music from an iPhone.

Can I mount the WiiM Bar on the wall?

Yes, two wall brackets with screws are included. At 74 millimetres tall, it's slim enough to fit under most wall-mounted TVs. If you're unsure whether your wall can bear the weight: our technician Maurizio will mount it on-site on request.

Why buy the WiiM Bar at HD Zürisee?

Because TV sound is almost always a question of how everything works together: TV, connection, room, seating distance. We go through that with you and plan the expansion in stages, instead of selling you everything at once. Delivery, wall mounting and setup all come from the same place.
