The Epos ES-7N is a compact 2-way bookshelf speaker with a front-firing bass reflex port and a switchable crossover voicing for free-standing or near-wall placement.

In walnut, it's the understated version of the family — the one that never has to justify itself in the living room. Technically it's identical to the other finishes. The ES-7N is sold as a pair.

Why the ES-7N?

Because the investment consistently goes where it matters. The 130 mm mid/bass driver has a mica-filled polypropylene cone, a 30 mm voice coil and a dual-magnet motor that cancels stray field and boosts drive force. The 28 mm tweeter comes from the larger ES-14N and deliberately does without ferrofluid, which keeps the temperature in the gap stable and compression low. The whole thing was developed by Karl-Heinz Fink.

What you hear

Timing and texture. The ES-7N makes rhythms tangible without ever pushing itself forward, resolves detail cleanly and keeps dense arrangements sorted. At 29 cm cabinet height, the lower midrange is remarkably stable — that surprises most people the first time.

Who is the ES-7N for?

Straight talk: ideal for small and medium living rooms, on stands as well as on a shelf, and for anyone who values accuracy over sheer volume. Less suited to large, semi-open rooms, home cinema with deep-bass ambitions, or amplifiers that struggle at 4 ohms. Honestly: if you mainly want background music, you'll be happier with less effort and expense.

Our verdict

A very grown-up compact speaker that doesn't put its qualities in the shop window. Award: What Hi-Fi? Awards 2025, Standmount Speakers category. HD Zürisee has been in Wädenswil since 1997 — we'll tell you honestly when the ES-7N is the right choice and when a bigger box makes more sense.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the ES-7N and the larger ES-14N?

The ES-7N is the compact version with a 130 mm mid/bass driver and 29 cm cabinet height. It shares the 28 mm tweeter with the ES-14N, so treble quality is identical. The ES-14N goes deeper and louder, while the ES-7N fits into rooms and shelves where the bigger model wouldn't.

Is the ES-7N delivered as a single unit or as a pair?

As a pair. A set always consists of two speakers, so there's nothing to double up. Each speaker weighs 7.6 kilograms and measures 20 cm wide, 29 cm high and 27 cm deep. Both cabinets share the same finish.

What's the best way to set up the ES-7N?

Cleanest on stands around 70 cm high, so the tweeter sits roughly at ear height, with 30 to 50 cm of distance from the wall and the switch in the upper position. If it sits on a shelf or right against the wall, choose the lower switch position.

Is the ES-7N suitable for home cinema?

As a front or rear speaker in a smaller setup, yes — as the sole source for effects, less so. For film sound with real weight, you'll want a subwoofer to cover the range below around 50 Hz. For stereo music, it needs no support at all.

Why buy the Epos ES-7N at HD Zürisee?

Because with us, experience comes before catalogue knowledge. We've worked with speakers of this class for decades, know the typical pitfalls in placement and amplifier matching, and stay with you well beyond the purchase — with our own technician for installation and service.

Goes well with

A good match: an integrated amplifier, solid speaker stands, and, if your collection lives on silver discs, a CD player.
