The AudioQuest Vodka is the optical reference of the line: a Toslink digital cable whose light path consists of 217 narrow-aperture, finely polished synthetic fibers. The 3.5mm mini adapter is included.

Why the Vodka?

Here the line's logic is carried through to its conclusion. Where the Carbon bundles 19 fibers, the Vodka has 217, each one finer and with a narrower aperture. The more tightly the light is guided, the more similar its portions' travel paths become, and the narrower the pulse stays for the converter to evaluate. Timing blur becomes as small as it can get with Toslink.

What you get

Effortlessness. The Vodka doesn't sound spectacular, but unstrained: transients arrive without hardness, spaces keep their depth even with complex material, and nothing seems to be straining. The included mini adapter also covers devices with a small optical jack.

Who is the Vodka suited for – and who isn't it?

Honestly: if you're only passing TV sound through optical, put your money elsewhere – into a better soundbar, for instance. The Vodka makes sense where a truly resolving chain hangs off the optical input and every remaining veil is a distraction.

Our verdict

The peak of what's possible with polymer fiber – and so a cable for systems that actually show the difference. Whether yours is one of them, we're happy to discuss openly: HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, 044 680 22 00, WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls) or shop@hdzuerisee.ch.

Frequently asked questions

What sets the Vodka's fiber apart from the Carbon's?

Number and fineness. AudioQuest specifies 217 narrow-aperture, finely polished synthetic fibers for the Vodka, while the Carbon makes do with 19. The finer the bundle, the more similar the travel paths of the light portions, and the narrower the pulse stays at the converter's input.

When is an optical connection actually the right choice?

Whenever your source device only offers an optical output, or when ground coupling introduces interference. Fiber optics electrically isolates both devices completely, taking hum loops off the table. If a good coaxial input is available to you as well, comparing both paths is worthwhile.

What should I watch for when routing an optical reference cable?

Generous bend radii and clean connectors. A tight kink costs light, and with it exactly the precision you're paying for. Leave protective caps on until you plug in, don't touch the fiber ends, and prefer a snug length over big loops behind the rack.

Why buy the Vodka from HD Zürisee?

Because at this level, the advice is worth more than the discount. We look at the source, the converter and the routing path, and tell you honestly if a tier below is the smarter choice. Talk to us on 044 680 22 00 or WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls).

Goes well with

Interesting at reference level: the other optical cables, the coaxial counterpart among the coaxial cables, high-quality DACs & D/A converters and the full AudioQuest world.
