Epos is a British speaker brand building bookshelf and floorstanding speakers for stereo reproduction – today developed by Karl-Heinz Fink. The ambition remains the same as it was in the eighties: a coherent, open sound that carries the music instead of pushing individual frequency ranges to the front. No storm of effects, no spec-sheet world record – just speakers you still enjoy listening to even after three hours.

Which Epos suits you?

The decision almost always runs through the room, not the budget. In smaller rooms the ES-7N plays surprisingly grown-up and tolerates little distance from the wall – it even has a switch on the crossover to adapt it to near-wall placement. The ES-14N wants a bit more air and rewards that with noticeably more substance in the mid-range. If you have around 25 m² or more to fill, reach for the ES-28N – below that, the bass quickly becomes too much of a good thing.

Second rule of thumb: bookshelf speakers belong on solid stands at ear height, not on the sideboard. That's not a sales pitch for accessories – it's the single biggest difference you'll hear from a box like that.

Honestly speaking

Epos makes classic, cleanly tuned stereo speakers – no full home cinema program, no active solution with an app. If you're looking for a soundbar alternative or a multichannel set, you're better served by other brands. But if you want two boxes that won't annoy you for ten years, it's worth a look. Factor in a decent amplifier and the stands as part of the deal – that belongs to the equation with good bookshelf speakers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the original stands for the bookshelf speakers?

They're not required, but they make sense. What matters is that the tweeter sits at ear height and the stand doesn't resonate along with the music. The Epos stand is matched exactly to the ES-14N and can be bolted to it; but any other stable stand of the right height will also do the job.

Which amplifier suits Epos?

The ES series is uncritical and runs on the vast majority of hi-fi amplifiers. That said, these speakers aren't efficiency wonders – an amplifier with a bit of power reserve into four ohms brings more enjoyment than a very small one. Tell us what you have, and we'll check the combination.

Are Epos speakers delivered in pairs?

Yes, all Epos speakers in the shop are pairs – so you get two boxes. The stand for the ES-14N also comes as a pair. What exactly is in the box is listed on every product page as the last line of the technical data, under "Included".
