Welche Elektronik brauche ich dazu?

Einen AV-Receiver oder AV-Verstärker, der Dolby Atmos dekodiert und zwei freie Endstufenkanäle übrig hat. Im Setup meldest du die beiden Kanäle als Dolby-Enabled- beziehungsweise Height-Lautsprecher an, damit die automatische Einmessung die Reflexion korrekt einrechnet. Ein Stereo-Vollverstärker kann Atmos nicht.

The Canton Townus AR 5 is a Dolby Atmos add-on speaker that sends its sound up to the ceiling and back down to your seat as a height channel.

This version wears real walnut veneer – the option for living rooms where technology is allowed to look like furniture. It sits on top of your front or rear speakers, or hangs on the wall via its integrated bracket. Always supplied as a pair.

Behind the veneer sits a licensed Dolby Enabled Speaker: sealed two-way enclosure, 154 mm woofer with titanium diaphragm and wave surround, topped by a 25 mm ceramic dome. How does the AR 5 create sound from above?

Through reflection. The speaker radiates at a defined angle against the room's ceiling, from where the sound travels to your seat. Your hearing therefore locates the source above you. The advantage: no cutting into the ceiling, no cables to run, no structural work.

What electronics do I need for it?

An AV receiver or AV amplifier that decodes Dolby Atmos and has two free amplifier channels left over. In the setup, you register the two channels as Dolby Enabled or height speakers so the automatic calibration factors in the reflection correctly. A stereo integrated amplifier can't do Atmos.

How many speakers do I get per order?

Does the AR 5 also work with speakers from other brands?

Yes. Sonically it's voiced to match the Townus series, but as a height channel it works equally well with other systems, as long as the AV amplifier calibrates the levels. More important than the brand is the mounting height and the ceiling material – those determine the effect.
