Brauche ich für das Internetradio ein Abo?

Nein.

The Sangean WFR-28BT is a portable internet radio with DAB+, FM and Bluetooth that runs on batteries as happily on the terrace as in the kitchen.

The light blue brings a splash of summer to the shelf: a radio you enjoy looking at even when it is silent.

Why the WFR-28BT?

Because it modernises the world-receiver idea: over Wi-Fi you reach more than 15,000 radio stations and podcasts, locally you receive DAB+ and FM with the extendable telescopic antenna, and via Bluetooth you play your phone. You do not need a subscription for any of it – streaming services such as Spotify are an option for those who are already customers.

You operate it on the unit or via app; seven sound profiles including a custom EQ for bass and treble help you tune the small speaker to the room.

What you hear

A 3-inch driver with 3 watts sounds compact but surprisingly straight – voices on news radio are intelligible, music is pleasant as long as you do not expect a concert hall. The colour display shows station and track, and the buttons sit where your fingers look for them. There is a dedicated headphone jack, and line-out and AUX-in let you integrate the radio into a system.

Run it from the power supply or on batteries: it takes four D cells and, at a good 850 grams, has enough weight not to blow away on the garden table.

Who is the WFR-28BT for?

For anyone looking for a flexible radio for the kitchen, workshop, balcony or holiday apartment – with the whole world of stations instead of just three. Plain talk: a 3-watt speaker does not replace a stereo system. If you want to listen to music in the living room, choose a larger tabletop unit – we are happy to show you which one suits your room.

Our verdict

The light blue WFR-28BT is the friendly variant for balcony, kitchen and holiday flat – the same technology as its darker siblings, just with more attitude. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil we advise you on colour, location and alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a subscription for internet radio?

No. Internet radio, DAB+ and FM work without a subscription; the more than 15,000 stations cost nothing extra. You can also use streaming services such as Spotify if you are a customer anyway – they are an option, not a requirement.

Does the WFR-28BT also run without a power outlet?

Yes. The radio takes four D batteries (1.5 V) and runs on them without the power supply. A battery indicator in the display shows the charge level. For permanent use at home, simply plug in the power supply.

Is the light blue WFR-28BT technically different from the other colours?

No. The light blue WFR-28BT has the same technology, the same reception and the same sound as the black and dark blue versions. Only the cabinet differs. Light blue is the freshest of the three colours and stands out pleasantly on the shelf.
