What you hear

A 2¼-inch speaker with 2.1 watts sounds compact but clear – news, morning show and music for the bedroom, not for the party. The backlit display shows station and extra information, and the contrast is adjustable.

The USB port (5 V / 1 A) charges your phone without taking up another wall socket. That takes a cable problem off the bedside table.

Who is the DCR-90BT for?

For anyone who wants a simple, easy-to-read radio with alarm and Bluetooth for the bedroom. Plain talk: it has no internet radio and no AUX input – if you need those, choose the DCR-83 or an internet radio. For good sound in the living room, a larger tabletop unit is the better choice.

Can I charge my phone with the Sangean DCR-90BT?

Yes. The DCR-90BT has a USB-A output with 5 V / 1 A that charges your phone or smaller devices. So you do not need a second socket at the bedside. It is not meant for very power-hungry chargers, but it is enough for overnight charging.

How does the clock set itself?

Automatically. The DCR-90BT reads the time from the DAB+ or RDS signal and sets itself. After a power cut you therefore do not have to reset it by hand once a station is received. You set the two alarm times with the buttons on the unit.

Do I need internet or a subscription?

No. DAB+ and FM work without internet and without a subscription. Via Bluetooth you can also play music or podcasts from your phone – with whatever you already have there. Streaming services are an option, not a requirement.
