The Blok Stax 2G Module 120 is a build-up level for the modular Stax 2G rack system with 120 mm of usable height – here with a tempered glass panel instead of plywood.

This finish combines 10 mm thick black glass with high-gloss black side panels. At 8.3 kg, it's almost twice as heavy as the wood variants – and the only one that puts your gear literally on a stage.

Why the Module 120?

Because a Stax 2G grows to measure. You set the level height per device instead of arranging things around standard compartments. 120 mm is the flattest step in the series and thus the level for streamers, D/A converters, phono preamps, and slim preamplifiers. If a taller device joins later, you simply slide a bigger module in between instead of replacing the whole rack.

What you get

A tempered glass level 10 mm thick with 480 × 387 mm of usable surface, rated up to 40 kg. Glass naturally brings more inherent mass than plywood – 8.3 instead of 4.6 kg – and it sits on the same silicone isolation pads, whose Shore hardness was determined by the Monitor Audio Group's acoustics department. The supports each hold around 1.4 litres of inert filler material, if you want it even calmer.

Who is the Module 120 suitable for?

For you, if your Stax 2G needs to house a flat component and you want to carry the glass look through. Straight talk: glass wants to be cleaned. Dust and fingerprints show mercilessly on black glass – if that's not for you, you'll be more relaxed with ash. And like the wood variants, this module isn't a soloist either: without a Base Module with feet and height adjustment, the foundation is missing. For tall devices, there's 170, 220, and LP.

Our verdict

The most striking of the three finishes – and the one with the most inherent weight. If you already have glass levels in your rack, there's no getting around this variant; if you're planning fresh, factor in the cleaning effort honestly. Technically, the glass module does nothing differently from the wood version, it just brings more mass. At HD Zürisee in Wädenswil, we're happy to tell you whether glass or wood is the better choice for your setup.

Frequently asked questions

What distinguishes the glass finish from the wood variants?

Material, mass, and overall height. The glass level is 10 mm thick and weighs 8.3 kg, the plywood levels are 13 mm thick and weigh 4.6 kg. That makes the glass module 133 mm tall instead of 135 mm. Usable height and load capacity are identical, and the usable surface is minimally larger at 480 × 387 mm.

Can I mix glass and wood modules in the same rack?

Yes, mechanically everything fits together: same footprint, same M10 fitting. Just note that the total height changes slightly depending on the mix, since glass modules are two millimetres flatter than the plywood versions. Visually, the combination is a matter of taste – a single consistent finish usually looks calmer.

Which devices does 120 mm of usable height suit?

Flat components such as streamers, D/A converters, phono preamps, and slim preamplifiers. Measure your device including feet and leave some clearance for cables and heat. Taller devices such as integrated amplifiers or CD players usually run on 170 mm, turntables with a dust cover on 220 mm or on the Module LP.

Is black glass fragile?

It's tempered safety glass and carries 40 kg just like the wood level. What's more sensitive is the look: dust and fingerprints show up more clearly on dark glass than on wood. A microfibre cloth is enough, but you'll reach for it more often than with the ash finishes.

Why buy the Blok Stax 2G Module 120 from HD Zürisee?

Because we go through your rack with you from bottom to top before you order: which devices go on which level, which heights are missing, and whether glass or wood suits your room better. Advice from Wädenswil, service from our own technician, delivery and assembly on request. Call us, write an email, or use WhatsApp.

Goes well with

Below the Module 120 belongs a Base Module in black glass; above it, Module 170, Module 220, and Module LP can be freely stacked – all components in the series are in the Blok overview. You'll find ready-configured racks among the HiFi racks. The level itself suits streamers, D/A converters, or a preamplifier; matching cables are available too.
