The AVM Ovation MA 6.3 is a pair of mono power amplifiers: two monoblocks, each of which amplifies one channel fully balanced and DC-coupled.
So what arrives is already the complete duo – one per speaker. The matte black aluminium front stays deliberately calm. The 680 watts behind it, less so.
Why the MA 6.3?
AVM builds the Ovation series by hand at its own factory in Malsch. In every MA 6.3 block, 40 selected MOSFET transistors work off a 1000 VA toroidal transformer, backed by 200,000 µF of filter capacitance. The design is fully balanced and DC-coupled throughout, and the damping factor is, according to AVM, above 400 – that keeps even impedance-critical speakers on a short leash. With a signal-to-noise ratio of 101 dB(A), the background stays deep black.
What you get
Pure power-amp strength, twice over: 680 watts at 8 ohms and 1000 watts at 4 ohms, per monoblock. The MA 6.3 takes the signal either balanced via XLR (14 kΩ) or unbalanced via RCA (6.8 kΩ) – both sockets are present, but according to the manual only one may be used at a time. What it deliberately doesn't bring: volume control, source selection, converters. It's a pure power amplifier and needs a preamplifier ahead of it – within the Ovation series, for instance the PA 8.3. It's switched on and off via a trigger signal through the 3.5 mm jack.
Who is the MA 6.3 suited for – and who isn't it for?
It's the right choice if you want to drive demanding speakers with separate channels: its own chassis, its own power supply, its own channel. Plain talk: if you're after a compact all-in-one solution, an integrated amplifier from the Ovation A series is cheaper and more space-efficient – and needs no separate preamplifier. And if you're eyeing the larger MA 8.3, you should know where the difference really lies according to AVM: a tube input stage, two toroidal transformers instead of one, 42 versus 21 kilograms, 253 versus 130 millimetres of chassis height and a stated 2-ohm power figure. Not in the 8-ohm wattage – AVM openly states the 8.3's as "over 600 watts", a figure you can't meaningfully compare with the 6.3's 680 watts.
Our verdict
The MA 6.3 does exactly one thing, and does it uncompromisingly: amplifies one channel. Twice in the box, so that stereo results. Handmade in Germany, designed for control rather than effect. Which preamplifier and which speakers get the best out of it is something we'd love to work out together with you at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil – call, write, or reach us on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need two MA 6.3 units for stereo?
Yes, stereo needs two monoblocks – but you don't have to hunt them down separately. AVM sells and ships the MA 6.3 as a pair, so two chassis for two speakers. Each block amplifies exactly one channel with its own power supply. That keeps the channels consistently separate and the bass clean.
What's the difference between the MA 6.3 and the MA 8.3?
Four points are documented: the MA 8.3 has an 803 T tube input stage, two 1000 VA toroidal transformers instead of one, 42 instead of 21 kilograms of weight and a 253 instead of 130 millimetre-high chassis. At 8 ohms, AVM states 680 watts for the 6.3 and openly "over 600 watts" for the 8.3 – no winner can be derived from that.
Which preamplifier do I need for the MA 6.3?
Any one with a line output, balanced or unbalanced – nothing works without a preamplifier at all, since the MA 6.3 has neither volume control nor source selection. Within the Ovation series, the PA 8.3 fits directly via XLR. Which combination suits your speakers and your room, we're happy to look at together with you.
How long is the warranty on the MA 6.3?
AVM grants two years of manufacturer's warranty from purchase; if you register the power amplifiers online with AVM, the warranty extends by two more years to four in total. We handle the registration and the entire warranty process for you – so the paperwork stays where it belongs.
Why buy the AVM Ovation MA 6.3 from HD Zürisee?
Because a power amplifier only really shines once preamplifier, speakers and room fit together – and that's exactly what we judge from years of hands-on practice rather than a spec sheet. As an authorised AVM specialist dealer in Wädenswil, we handle warranty, delivery and setup, technician Mauri included. Call, write, or use WhatsApp.
