The AudioQuest Niagara 3000 is a power conditioner in Schuko format that supplies seven devices with filtered power and protects your system against voltage spikes — without sacrificing itself in the process.
It was developed by Garth Powell, AudioQuest's specialist for everything that comes out of the wall. The result isn't some filter box with a marketing sticker, but an eleven-kilo unit that dissipates noise instead of choking your power amp.
Why the Niagara 3000?
Your wall outlet delivers a lot more than just power these days. Switch-mode power supplies, LED dimmers, routers, and the heat pump next door all dump high-frequency noise onto the line as well. The Niagara 3000 pushes back: patented Ground-Noise-Dissipation, filtering linearized across more than 18 octaves, and over 24 dB of noise rejection from 6 kHz to 1 GHz — without the resonance peaks that simple filter strips tend to pick up along the way. Two low-impedance high-current outlets are reserved for the amplifier. There, Transient Power Correction keeps more than 55 amps of peak current on tap for up to 25 milliseconds, so the bass never gets held back.
What you get
Seven Schuko outlets with a clear division of labor: two for amplifiers or subwoofers, five linearly filtered ones for DAC, streamer, transport, and preamp. Plus destruction-free surge protection that absorbs spikes up to 6000 volts or 3000 amps without giving up the ghost itself — unlike the sacrificial components in hardware-store power strips. The power cable to the wall is deliberately not included: the Niagara has a C14 inlet and expects a 15 A-rated cable of your choice.
Who is the Niagara 3000 for — and who isn't it for?
Straight talk: if you're running three devices in the living room and mainly want surge protection, a PowerQuest strip serves you better. If you're powering several hefty power amps and a dozen sources, the Niagara 5000 is the smarter reach. In between — an ambitious stereo or AV chain, good components, audibly noisy mains — the 3000 hits the sweet spot.
Our verdict
The Niagara 3000 doesn't make anything louder — it makes everything cleaner. That's the least spectacular way to make a good system better, and one of the most effective. The trade press agrees: "The soundstage was larger and more three-dimensional, and the bass extended even deeper." – Muse Kastanovich, The Absolute Sound, 2024. Frequently asked questions
Which power cable do I need for the Niagara 3000?
One with a C13 connector, rated for at least 15 amps and with a cross-section of at least 2.5 mm². It's deliberately not included, because AudioQuest leaves the choice to you. A good high-current cable noticeably gets more out of the unit. We'll tell you which one fits your system and your budget.
Does the Niagara 3000 hold back my power amp?
No. The two high-current outlets are low-impedance and aren't throttled in series. For short load spikes, Transient Power Correction even supplies the amplifier with an extra 55-plus amps. This is exactly where many simple filter strips fall short: they calm the background noise but cost you dynamics in return.
How many devices can I connect to the Niagara 3000?
Seven. Two Schuko outlets are reserved for high-current loads like integrated or power amplifiers and subwoofers, five for sources like a DAC, streamer, CD transport, or phono preamp. Total current is limited to 15 amps RMS. If you need more outlets, the larger Niagara 5000 is the answer.
Why buy the Niagara 3000 at HD Zürisee?
Because power conditioning depends on your installation, not on a spec sheet. We'll look together at what's hanging off your chain, which devices belong on the high-current outlets, and whether the size is right. Plus, we're an authorized dealer with our own technician and a team that's been doing hi-fi since the nineties.
