Couldn't load pickup availability
The Atoll DR200 Evolution is a pure CD transport that reads the disc and outputs the signal purely digitally via coaxial, optical and AES/EBU.
A device with no analogue output sounds at first like half a product. In reality it's a consistent separation: reading and converting are two tasks, and solving them separately often solves them better.
Why the DR200 Evolution?
Because every franc goes into the transport and the power supply instead of into a converter section you might not even need. A TEAC transport reads the disc, powered by a 30 VA transformer and 23,000 µF filter capacitance – a figure you rarely see in a transport. The AES/EBU output via XLR outputs the signal balanced and is reserved for the DR200.
What you get
Free choice of converter. You decide which D/A converter makes your CDs audible – today maybe the DA200 card in your Atoll amplifier, in five years something else. The transport stays. Three digital outputs cover every connection type, and in standby it draws less than half a watt.
Who is the DR200 Evolution for?
For anyone who already has a good converter – in the amplifier, in the streamer or as a standalone unit – and wants to feed their CD collection at a proper level. Plain talk: without a converter behind it, it stays silent – that's not a limitation, it's the concept. No analogue output, no headphone output, no volume control. If you want a solution in one chassis, get the CD200 Evolution.
Our verdict
An honest device for people who build their chain deliberately. The DR200 Evolution is the right choice when the converter is already in place and the CDs just need to be read cleanly – and with its AES/EBU output, it has exactly the connection you want for that. We'll tell you honestly whether it makes sense in your chain: 044 680 22 00 or WhatsApp 076 534 22 00, HD Zürisee in Wädenswil.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a CD transport and a CD player?
A CD transport reads the disc and outputs the signal only digitally – it has no D/A converter and no analogue output. So you definitely need an external converter or an amplifier with a digital input behind it. In return, all the money goes into the transport and power supply.
Do I need a DAC for the Atoll DR200 Evolution?
Yes, absolutely. Without a converter behind it, you'll hear nothing. Suitable options are, for example, an Atoll amplifier with a DA200 card, a streamer with a digital input, or a standalone D/A converter. We'll work out with you what best suits your chain.
What does the AES/EBU output on the DR200 Evolution get you?
It outputs the digital signal balanced via XLR, which is less susceptible to interference than coaxial or optical – especially over longer cable runs. Coaxial and optical are also available. The AES/EBU output is reserved for the DR200, the smaller DR100 doesn't have it.
Does the DR200 Evolution have a headphone output?
No. The DR200 Evolution is a pure transport with no analogue section – there's neither a headphone jack nor an RCA output. The digital output level is fixed at 1 volt and can't be adjusted.
Why buy the Atoll DR200 Evolution from HD Zürisee?
Because a transport without the right converter is just an expensive paperweight. We put the combination together with you, sort out cabling and connection type, and take care of delivery, installation and service with our own technician.
Goes well with
It needs a D/A converter or a streamer with a digital input, and behind that an integrated amplifier. The right cables come along with it.
