The Atlantis Lab AT18 is a floorstanding speaker with a dual-diaphragm concept, with one woofer on the front and one on the back, delivering powerful bass from a slim tower thanks to 96 dB sensitivity and 37 Hz extension.

Atlantis Lab is a French loudspeaker manufacturer, founded in 1998 by Eric Buy, and the drivers come from Eighteen Sound. We carry the AT18 at HD Zürisee in Wädenswil – as the link between the compact models and the really big towers of the series.

Why the Atlantis Lab AT18?

At the front sits a 16 cm paper woofer with a neodymium magnet and tangential surround, at the back a 13 cm polypropylene woofer, and above them a 1-inch compression driver. At 92 cm tall, with 96 dB sensitivity and a power handling of 250 watts (peak 500 watts), the AT18 is made for more room than the smaller models. The bass reflex port is adjustable (14.3 cm from the factory, optionally 14.5, 16.1 or 17.0 cm). You also get copper terminals, Esprit Audio internal wiring and feet developed by Pann Audio for Atlantis Lab.

What you hear

According to the manufacturer, the AT18 plays from 37 Hz to 20 kHz. A speaker that starts at 37 Hz on paper does not need to hide behind a subwoofer in your living room. The high sensitivity brings dynamics even with smaller amplifiers. The manufacturer states a break-in time of around 100 hours – that is not a typo, but a patience test for weekends.

Who is the Atlantis Lab AT18 for?

For medium to large living spaces, for listeners who want bass extension and dynamics without giving up tube amplifiers or moderate power. Plain talk: because one woofer radiates to the rear, the AT18 needs some air behind it, and at 28 kg each it is no shelf lightweight.
