The Audio Analogue Maestro Anniversary 2.0 is the flagship of the Maestro series: a stereo integrated amplifier with a fully balanced signal path, dual-mono power supply, and 200 W into 8 Ω.

In silver, you wouldn't guess the power inside. Two toroidal transformers, six separate circuit boards and massive heatsinks disappear behind milled aluminium. Only the scale gives it away: 47.5 kilos, spread across four feet and one moving helper.

Why the Maestro Anniversary 2.0?

Because it consistently moves the pre-/power-amp separation inside the case. Each channel gets its own 670 VA toroidal transformer, its own output stage with four transistor pairs, and a balanced signal path — without global feedback, wired with 7N-OCC copper. The result: 200 W into 8 Ω, 400 W into 4 Ω and 600 W into 2 Ω. Volume is set by the RR circuit via relays and precision resistors, across four selectable scales. You'll look in vain for a potentiometer — that's the whole point.

What you hear

Composure under load. Where smaller amplifiers start to lose their footing in complex orchestral tuttis, the 2.0 just stays calm — the bass drum lands dry, the strings keep their texture. The 0.2 Ω output impedance and the roughly 100 dB signal-to-noise ratio are the dry numbers behind it. A pleasant side effect: you turn the volume down automatically, because you're no longer searching for anything.

Who is the Maestro Anniversary 2.0 for?

For large rooms and speakers that genuinely want current — impedance-critical multi-way designs, for instance. Straight talk: if you're running bookshelf speakers in a normal living room, buying the 2.0 mostly buys you reserves you'll never use; the Maestro Anniversary is entirely sufficient there. Also: no streaming, no DAC, no phono, no headphone output. This unit wants a system built around it.

Our verdict

Purist down to the last screw, yet fit for everyday use because everything sits in one chassis. If you've been weighing a power-amp combination, run the numbers on the 2.0 first. What actually makes sense for your room is something we'd rather discuss before you buy than after — HD Zürisee, Wädenswil: 044 680 22 00, WhatsApp 076 534 22 00 (text only, no calls) or shop@hdzuerisee.ch.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Maestro Anniversary 2.0 replace a pre-/power-amp combination?

Sonically it comes very close, because both channels are built as independent monoblocks — their own transformer, their own output stage, fully balanced signal path. What it doesn't offer is the freedom to swap preamp and power amp separately. In exchange, you save one chassis, one power cable and a pair of interconnects.

What connections does the Maestro Anniversary 2.0 have?

Five analogue high-level inputs: three RCA and two balanced XLR. Plus one pair of speaker terminals per channel. There are no digital inputs, no network, no phono, no headphone output and no preamp output. The third RCA input can be switched to direct power-amp mode if an external preamp comes into play. A pure stereo system rarely needs more.

How does RR control differ from a normal volume knob?

Instead of a potentiometer, relays switch in matched precision resistors in steps. The signal path stays fully analogue throughout. The benefit lies in channel tracking across the whole control range and in durability — a potentiometer changes over the years, switched resistors don't. The 2.0 offers four scales to choose from.

Does the 2.0 fit in a normal hi-fi rack?

Usually yes, with one caveat: 205 mm of height needs a generous shelf, though at 465 mm it's less deep than the smaller Maestro Anniversary. The 47.5 kg is the more critical factor — glass shelves and lightweight racks are out. We're happy to take a look at your furniture beforehand.

Goes well with

To give the 200 watts something to do: big floorstanding speakers as a partner, a streamer or CD player as a source, and proper cables & connectors in between. For an overview of the brand see the Audio Analogue collection, all models are under All amplifiers.
