The Audio Analogue ABsolute 3.0 is an integrated amplifier from the ABsolute reference line with 300 watts Class AB, a feedback-free circuit and analogue volume control via relays and precision resistors.

In black, it looks a shade more understated than 50 kilograms of Italian handwork really ought to be. The idea behind it is old, and rarely executed this cleanly: preamplifier and power amplifier in one chassis, without either side having to give up anything.

Why the ABsolute 3.0?

Because a separate pre/power combination needs two power supplies, two chassis and a cable in between – and the ABsolute 3.0 skips all of that without sounding smaller for it. The circuit, designed by AIRTECH, operates without a global feedback loop. Volume runs through switched resistor steps instead of a potentiometer. Five inputs, two of them balanced, cover a full-grown system.

What you'll hear

Above all, effortlessness. The amplifier doesn't lose track when a lot happens at once: basslines come dry and precisely timed, the treble stays open without pushing, and the midrange keeps its body. Late in the evening, the second benefit shows up – even at low volume, the music stays spatially organized instead of collapsing into a thin remainder.

Who is the ABsolute 3.0 for?

For listeners who build their system around a single device and own speakers that like current. Straight talk: if you're mainly after the warm character of pure Class A, better reach for the original ABsolute with 50 W Class A. And if you don't have a stable piece of furniture with 48 centimetres of clear width, plan that before the purchase – not afterwards, with an aching back.

Our verdict

An integrated amplifier that simply never leaves you missing the separation of pre- and power amp: 300 watts, no global feedback, a volume control with manners. Frequently Asked Questions

Does the ABsolute 3.0 also suit low-efficiency speakers?

Yes, that's what it's built for. 300 watts at 8 ohms in Class AB means plenty of current delivery, and that benefits speakers with low efficiency or an unruly impedance curve most of all. They sound less strained as a result, especially in the bass and at higher levels.

Do I need a separate preamplifier as well?

No. The ABsolute 3.0 is an integrated amplifier and already contains the preamp stage, including input selection and volume control. You connect your sources directly to it and the speakers to the output. A separate preamplifier wouldn't be necessary here and would just pass the signal on unnecessarily.

What's the difference between the ABsolute 3.0 and the original ABsolute?

The power and how it's engineered. The original ABsolute operates switchably at 50 watts in pure Class A or 150 watts in Class AB. The ABsolute 3.0 commits consistently to 300 watts Class AB, and thus to more headroom and control instead of the Class A character.

Can I control the ABsolute 3.0 remotely?

Yes. Included in the delivery is a solid-aluminium remote control that lets you adjust volume and input selection. Because the volume runs internally through switched resistor steps, the steps from the remote are exactly the same as at the unit.

Why buy the ABsolute 3.0 in Black from HD Zürisee?

Because with us you don't just get a device, you get someone who puts it in context. We're an authorized Audio Analogue dealer, know the line from daily experience, and will also tell you if a smaller model would make more sense for your room. Service and installation are handled by our own technician.
