Why the WiiM Pro Plus?

Because here the analogue output is no longer the compromise. The AKM AK4493SEQ from the Velvet Sound series reaches 121 dB signal-to-noise ratio and a total harmonic distortion of -113 dB — figures you'd normally expect from much more expensive converters. So you connect the Pro Plus directly to an RCA input on your amplifier and don't need an extra DAC in between.

The path in has also improved: the analogue input converts at up to 192 kHz / 24-bit instead of the WiiM Pro's 48 kHz. Anyone wanting to send their turntable or an old CD player into the multiroom system hears the difference exactly there.

What is the difference between the WiiM Pro and the WiiM Pro Plus?

The Pro Plus has the better converter: an AKM AK4493SEQ with 121 dB signal-to-noise ratio instead of the TI DAC's 106 dB. It also converts its analogue input at 192 kHz / 24-bit instead of 48 kHz, and the Voice Remote is included. Connections, housing and app are identical.

Do I still need an external DAC with the WiiM Pro Plus?

No. The AKM converter is exactly why the Pro Plus exists — you go straight into your amplifier via RCA. An external DAC only pays off once it plays noticeably above the streamer's level. In that case you use the optical or coaxial output.

Can the WiiM Pro Plus drive a power amplifier directly?

Yes. Switch the output level in the WiiM Home app from fixed to adjustable, and the Pro Plus works as a preamp for a power amp or active speakers. Do this before connecting — with a fixed level, full volume is otherwise present immediately when switched on.

Can I connect headphones to the WiiM Pro Plus?
