Blok Stax 2G Module LP, Black Glass

The Blok Stax 2G Module LP is the build module with the greatest clear height in the Stax 2G system: 350 mm, enough for records standing upright or for a tall component to fit. This finish uses 10 mm tempered black glass with high-gloss black supports – the most striking of the three variants, and at 11.2 kg also the heaviest.

Why the Module LP?

The Stax 2G isn't a finished rack, it's a building kit. The Base Module sits at the bottom with height-adjustable feet, and on top of it you stack the levels you actually need: module heights 120, 170 and 220 for electronics, the Module LP for vinyl or for tall components. Silicone isolation pads sit between the levels, damping structure-borne noise. If you want it even calmer, pull the rubber plugs out of the supports and fill them with damping material – a good five litres per support first needs to be set into motion at all.

What you get out of it

Black glass turns a row of records into a display: the covers stand free, the glass surface reflects subtly, everything else steps back. It stays practical all the same – 40 kg load capacity per level and usable dimensions of 350 × 480 × 387 mm take even a tall amplifier or a turntable with the lid on. Glass is also the easiest of the three surfaces to keep clean, as long as you can live with fingerprints.

Who is the Module LP for?

For anyone who wants to show off their system on purpose and keep vinyl within reach. Straight talk: glass sounds different from plywood – harder, more direct, less damping. If you're after a warm, woody voicing, the ash finishes suit you better. Otherwise the same rules apply: without the Base Module this level can't stand, and for a collection running into the hundreds, an LP level is a within-reach shelf, not an archive.

The showpiece of the series – and one with real substance. More mass, more presence, the same construction and the same load capacity as the wood variants. Frequently asked questions

How many records fit on the glass level?

We assume around 40 LPs per level. Blok doesn't publish a count, only the usable dimensions of 350 × 480 × 387 mm – the glass variant is in fact very slightly deeper usable than the wood finishes. The real number depends on your sleeves and on double albums.

Is the glass level heavier than the wood versions?

Yes, noticeably: 11.2 kg versus 7.5 to 7.8 kg for the plywood finishes. The extra mass works in your favour when it comes to resonance, but makes the assembly more unwieldy. It's best to plan the rack directly at its final location rather than moving it once fully built.

Does the black glass scratch when I put records on it?

Tempered glass is hard and unaffected by normal use; cardboard sleeves won't mark it. What shows up more is dust and fingerprints – a microfibre cloth is enough. Avoid sharp-edged metal parts, and place heavy components in the centre of the surface rather than on an edge.

Can I mix glass and wood modules?

Technically yes: all Stax 2G modules use the same bolted connection and stack freely, up to the recommended total height of 1100 mm. Visually it's a matter of taste, and acoustically the materials behave differently. We're happy to tell you which mix actually works in practice.
